and Mpeichman, Mrs. J-T 159) : Northern Ontario's Oldest Weekly Newspaper Cle 'orrible Quits Effective next week, The Haileyburian and Cobalt Weekly Post will be published by the Temiskaming Printing Company of New Liskeard. The present editor and publisher regrets that the unremitting pressure of increasing costs, without any great increase in revenue mekes it necessary to sell the paper to some organization that has the financial resources and mechanical facilities that will ensure a profitable operation. We want to thank a great manypeople whchave helped during the past three years. First of all the North Bay Nugget, which kept us on atfull salary so that we could afford to run the Haileyburian. Following a motor acc- ident, we have found it more and more difficult to do two jobs, and this too has contributed toward our decision to sell. Howeverthe Nugget's assistance is a 'rare example of a large daily materfally assisfing a" 'small and struggling weekly. We must also thank Alan Hurst at the Bank of Nova Scotia, whonever yelled too loud when we got in the red and always provided a good deal of seund advice. Art Cooke has helped us many times, while Alex Maclean, Heileybury's grand old photographer, has do- (mated hours of his time. Dalton Dean managed to prévent (img to give us the benefit of his considerable political Dan Hellens bailed us out of anasty jackpot once , while Hubert Doran of the Temiskaming Construction and the Valentine brothers at Morissettes saved our necks with printing orders time ard time again. Bob Ashford and Mrs. Ashford and Uncle Harold at the show, Mrs. Lyttle at the Evelyn Shoppe, Jimmy Timmins at the Haileybury Hotel, just to name a few of that mall but faithful band of regular advertisers who have kept the wheels turning. We are goingto miss ul. It isn't possible to name all those who have helped | keep the Haileyburian going. Our staff has worked ex- 'tremly hard, and for the mostpartfom very poor wages. We thank them and all the other little people who don't' {rum basinesses or hold important positions, but none the 8 always did their best to help the town's old paper We are glad that Cecil Bond and associates plan to keep publishing the Haileyburian as a separate paper , and wish them well. In looking back over the years, ows big gest consolation is that we did our best, accomplished least no one can say that we were often dull.
