The department of lands and forests had been aware of the thieves for some time -- "but it has been very difficult to catch them,"' He made the statements dur- ing the trial of Marcell Everl- hest of Fabre, Quebec, who pleaded guilty to the theft of 12 trees. Magistrate Gould told Everl- hest it was unusual for a fine to be imposed for theft -- '"'but in this case it may serve the purpose' -- and fined him $25 with $28.60 court costs. The conclusion seems .to be that this creature is none other than the Himalayan red bear, a huge animal which ;is found at high altitudes.
