Cobalt I.0.0.F. Lodge No. 379 met recently in the Oddfellows Hall on Lang Street, with H. Fleming presiding assisted by H. Cooper. A presentation of a pen was given to Gordon Warren, who has gone to North Bay to take up resi- dence there. A. J. Brown made the presentation. The Lodge was in- formed that District 59 representa- tives would visit Cobalt on Nov. 1. to conduct degree work, and to encourage fraternal relations be- tween districts and Lodges. The local Lodge No. 379 decided to extend invitations to the other Lod- ges in the district; and also to any Oddfellow who is visiting in town to join District No. 59 representa- tives on that occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Garnet L. Benson of Deep Brook, Nova Scotia, have been visiting their daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. G. Johnston and family for the past two weeks and left for their home from Earlton, via T.C.A. Mont- real. The Rev. and Mrs. G. S. Johns- ton accompanied by Mr. and Mrs, G. L. Benson attended the Dio- cesan Executive Meeting of the Diocese of Algoma, held at Cop- per Cliff last week. The Rev. and Mrs. Geo. S. John- ston entertained last Friday even- ing for their daughter, Erica-Jean on the occasion of her fifteenth birthday. MclIsaac has been visiting relatives in Parry Sound and Toronto for the past two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. James Whelan, Blackwall Street, their family and three mining students had an excellent view of Sputnik sput- tering across the sky last Monday evening about six-fifteen. When first seen it was about for- ty-five degrees above the house, going in a north-easterly direction, its brilliance surging and fading about every nine seconds. ; It was most noticeable, for about thirty degrees on each side, and over head, during the fading time, It was travelling like a fast Jet with a flashing landing light. Using twenty power binoculars, an especially clear view of it was obtained.
