In this srnall column we hope to give you all the highlights. School life continues as usual, but behind that Iron Curtain of homework and study are exciting activities. This year, at one end of the corridor of our one-floored do- main, is a new library. This ad- dition to the high school provides all the students with excellent literature. At present we have 470 hooks but will be getting more volumes presently. Through the efforts of Mr, Tom Parry and his helpful assistants from grade 11, the books have been catalogued, miarked and placed neatly in the classified sections on the shelves. » Looming in the near future are tthe annual Commencement exer- cises. The school is slowly gather- ing up its heels and by November. 28th, the maddening pace will have reached its climax. Every SSturday morning a troup of ten 'girls may be seen walking down to the Legion Hall where they practise their dances under the voluntary direction of Péter Mol- Yison. I am sure that on November 28th, the people of Haileybury will think that the High School has hired professional dancers from Broadway. This is not the only entertain- ment to be given on this special night. There will be music pro- Guan - Phan: Z | Blue Grass Cream Deodorant New "creamy formula New a applicator Jee pase... \ 1, "So sure. ..so fragrant ;++and now so easy to 'epply. There is yet another activity which has been in progress since October 22nd. That is the Curtis Plan, Through this plan the stu- dents of the High School sell magazine -subscriptions to | their neighbors and friends. While pro- viding these people with an ex- cellent selection of magazines and giving themselves' exercise in salesmanship, are also filling the treasury of the Students' Council which every now and again needs to be replenished. We have found this plan valuable and hope to continue it in following years. Wednesday afternoon, October 29th, our squad plays New Lis- keard on the Mining School field in Haileybury in what should be an exciting game, win or lose. So far this season, we have not done so well, point wise, in the football league, but no one can complain about lack of sportsmanship on the part of our team. Friendship Group At Northdale Manor The members of Cobalt United Church Friendship Group, became senior citizens for the evening of Oct. 21. The group met for the regular monthly meeting in the lovely living room of Northdale Manor in New Liskeard. The president, Marge Menzies called the meeting to order and asked all present to introduce themselves. Hellen Mallett led the devotional and 'was assisted by Signe Kangas and Vera Cassidy. The residents of the manor enjoyed the readings and many joined in the singing of the hymns. Roll Call showed 24 members of the Friendship Group, After the reading of the minutes and the usual reports, a very short business meeting took place. One of the highlights of the even- ing, were the two films-Road to Plenty and The Challenge of the North, shown by George Newman. These films were all about North- ern Ontario and many scenes were familiar ones in this very district. Following the films, a lunch was served in the dining room. All those present enjoyed this oppor- | tunity to visit and chat with the senior citizens. It is thought that all the residents had a useful little gift to take with them at the end of the evening. Before leaving the president thanked those at the manor for the use of their home and the enjoy- able visit during the evening. c 20 GAMES 50c BINGO Sponsored by Haileybury Ladies Auxiliary LEGION HALL Tuesday, November 4 4 SPECIAL GAMES DOOR PRIZE $10 BLACKOUT $100 ON 12 NUMBERS Heat COBALT As long as all the world loves a lover «..this romance will livet "GUNSMOKE HAILEYBURY -- LAST TIMES TODAY COBALT -- FRI. & SAT., OCT. 31,- NOV. 1 COLUMBIA PICTURES presents st Saey Bachna Prodan ASONGTO - IN TECHNICCLOR Lal Merle MUNI: OBERON with CORNEL WILDE .
