Children's Aid Society This week the annual Children's Aid campaign got under way, and for the next while canvassers will be calling asking for contributions needed if the work of the Society is to be carried on successfully. There are many persons who do not understand fully the dual job of the society, and a proper understanding is necessary fif a sympathetic hearing is to be given the canvassers, - When the Children's Aid Society first started its wonderful 'work, all monies received were from voluntary contributions, and'it was spent to aid needy children, to provide homes for the homeless, and act as a guardian for those unfortunates. 'Since then, the Society has become the official guardian for unwanted children, children from broken homes, receiving monies for this purpose from the governments and municipalities. But the equally important work of welfare, the rehabilitation and visitations at homes where parents need training and children help still is financed by your contributions. The Children's Aid Society of this district needs $27,000 to carry on its work, and every donation, no matter how small will be needed if the objective is to be reached. And yet 214 parents in Haileybury are apparently quite satisfied with this grievous state of affairs. If these 214 indifferent parents would only come and support their Home and School Association-- perhaps the public school could aspire to accommodation at least as good as that of the Separate School. I am not on the committee of the Home and School Association. I am simply a parent who is vitally interested in the proper educa- tion--not only of my own child- ren, but of 'all the children in Can- ada.
