° . Page 4 The Haileyburian Thursday, February 5, 1959 Across the Kitchen Table | By MRS. MAC : February is the month that all branches "of the Women's Insti- tute are supposed to observe as International month, stressing in their programs, something about ' Institute work in other lands, in- viting women of other national- ities to attend the meeting or doing something to emphasize the fact that their Institute is one branch in a world-wide organization. Memvers of the Temiskaming Institutes have not, I am sure, forgotten the wonderful feeling of friendliness and togetherness, that they experienced when, follow- ing the A.C.W.W. Conference that was held in Toronto, a bus load of women from other lands came north, filled with an eagar de- sire to see and learn as much as possible, of Canada, in the short length of time at their dis- posal. There were women from England, Ireland, Holland, Ger- many Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Denmark and the: United States, all overflowing with friend- liness and gratitude for what we did to welcome them to our coun- try. The last conference was in Ceylon and we in Temiskaming were fortunate in having much of it brought to us through the medium of the talk, illustrated by slides, givén by Miss Lilly Petty at last years convention. This year the Conference will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland, from August 8 to the.15, with our provincial president, Mrs. Hag- gerty, as one of the official dele- gates from Ontario. Mrs. Mac- Phatter and Miss McKercher will be. there as accredited visitors and Miss" Ethel Chapman, edi- tor of Home and Country, has also' been given the privilege of attending. This year, I am taking more than usual interest in it, because if my piggy bank doesn't have to be robbed for something more important, before July, I, too, will be going to Scotland to attend the |}, Conference. Mrs. Howard Beach of Milberta will be with me, and Mrs. James MacDougall and Miss Joyce.Martindale, both of Cane, News from the Evelyn Shoppe THEY'RE HERE! Or, if you prefer the swirl of pleats, get one of the Sportrite pa- tented reversibles, each pleat hand blocked under rigid control for ex- cellent pleat retention and perfect fit for size. The dullest day would be transformed by the colors shown in these, and their names transfer your thoughts so far away transfer your thoughts to far away places, Trinidad Tan, Nassau Blue, Firebrand Red, and a most intriguing shade of pink. Made in St. Gall, Switzerland, whose Artisans have been famous for 700 years as em- broiderers, these blouses show] their fine art in the exquisite ma-|. - terial and . embroidered panels, They come in white and are styled with tiny collars or the simpler] collarless neckline, with a perky little self bow asking for attention.
