Curling In the play off game of the afternoon rink in the second com- petition, Gert MacArthur's rink won over Evy. Harrison on Mon- day evening. ' The next game will be between the MacArthur and McFarlane rinks, Wednesday evening, Feb- ruary 11th. Three rinks. from the local elub attended the Visitors Day in New Liskeard last Saturday. While none got into the prizes all enjoyed the curling and good fellowship. A rink from Engle- hart took first prize and one from Virginiatown consolation and al- so for the rink coming the far- thest distance. Accompanied by his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thompson, Mr. Cummings was on his way to spend a months holiday touring the United States. Miss Rita' Catudal spent the past week-end visiting with Mrs. Clif- ford Bigelow in Lorrain Valley. The Ontario Association of Agri- cultural Societies is holding its Annual Convention at the King Ed- ward Hotel, Toronto, February 25 and 26 with an excellent program dealing with matters of interest to its members. On the morning of February 25 there will be a joint session of men and women delegates from both larger and smaller fairs. One of the highlights will be a panel on Fighting Words which Will be heaa- ed by Norm Garriock of the CBC. Elmer McKinnon, President of the A and B Fairs Section will be the chairman in the afternoon when topics of interest to the larg- er fairs will be discussed, These include: Dramatizing Exhibits; Getting the Most from Radio and Television; Show Ring Manners and Judging Problems; and Re- view of Federal Support to Fairs and Exhibitions. During the evening the winning slides in the Colored Photographic Competition will be shown and prizes amounting to-$500 presented by the Canadian National Exhibi- tion. On Thursday, February 26, there will be. talks by fair officials on Entertainment Programs for Fairs; Making. Revenue Exceed Expenditures; in Fair Activities; Making the Most of What We Have; and Ontar- io's Farm Accident Survey. The sessions for women dele- gates begin at 3 p.m. on the 25th and will continue for the full day on the 26th. Mrs. Wm. Dawon of Tillsonburg and Miss Charlotte Mc- Cullough of Georgetown, President and Secretary respectively of the Women's Section, have planned discussions on a number of timely topies including: Handicrafts, of which there will be an attractive display; Junior Activities and School Work; Food Classification; and Arranging of Exhibits includ- ing Flowers. The Annual Banquet will be held the evening of the 26th and will mark the closing of the Conven- tion. Guest speaker will be Dr. Richard D. Jones, National Exec- utive Director, Canadian Council ment following the banquet will in- clude acts suitable for fairs and exhibitions. Desjardins Elected President The first general meeting of 1959 of l'Association de Parents et d'Instituteurs, french section, was held on Sunday 25th in the Holy Cross Parish Hall. Rev. Father Brunette opened proceedings with the prayer. The secretary, Mme E. Rivard, read the minutes of the last meeting followed by the financial report. Rev. Father L:. Leblanc, princi- pal of Fatima High School, pre- sented a detailed report on the activities of the library commit- tee. Then followed the election of officers for the coming year. The following were elected:-- Mme Lucien Desjardins, president; Mme Raoul Houle, vice - president; Councillors: Mme E. Rivard, Mme Fernand Sauve, Mme J. R. For- get, Mme Olier Gravel, Mme Laurin Charette, M. Jean Fortin, M. E. Laforge M. R. Drainville, M. A. Mathiew, M. A. Catudal. The meeting continued with a period devoted to the 'Question Box". Rev. Father Brunette then brought the meeting to a close with a few well chosen words New Trophy For Kiwanis Festival The January meeting of Temis- kaming South Branch of the ORMTA was held at the home of Mrs. O. Spangler, Birch Drive, New Liskeard. Routine reports were given by the secretary and the treasurer and some corres- pondence was read. JMrs. S. Carr informed the meet- ing that Mrs. B. McCaughan is do- nating a new trophy for the Tem- iskaming Festival to be held late in April at New Liskeard.
