Golden Bar Brownies prepared and passed tests. L. A. members passed Gold- en Hand Brownies on tests for making pudding, knitting, skip- ping, semaphore. There was in- spection of uniforms- and clean handkerchiefs. Tweenies worked on tying a tie and braiding. Games were enjoyed, sing song. Meeting closed with Taps. Euchre ular Euchre held weekly by / pe: to Canadian Legion branch 44. Tuesday, January 27. 1st prize, Mrs. B. Leonard; 2nd, Mrs. E. Geck; 3rd, Mrs. D. Moore. Mrs. O'Rourke, convener reports a very good attendance at the Euchres. Home and School 'Two very fine and entertain- films were shown when the Cobalt-Coleman Home. and School Association met for their regular meeting in the Public school on Monday, January 26. These films portrayed underground mining at Broulan Reef Mines, in the Por- cupine Area and underground min- ing in the fabulous uranium mining field in tthe Elliot Lake region. Both films were very worth while and educational. In the ab- sence of the president, Mr. D. MeGugan chaired the meeting. Mrs. Neddo played for the sing- ing of O. Canada. Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted. There were 38 members present. First item of business resulting from these minutes was a discus- sion on fund raising ideas. Mrs. Knight moved that the Home and School Association start a project towards supplying kindergarten with playground equipment. This was seconded by Mrs. Degager, a few suggestions were made but as nothing concrete was decided upon it was felt that the executive should have a meeting in the near future and bring back several def- inite ideas and plans for a fund C G obalt Go eials raising project. 'These plans would be submitted for approval by the association. The banner was awarded to Miss S. Smith's class. Bonus prize was drawn but tthe ticket holder was absent, there- fore the amount will be $3.00 next month. Mr. McGugan then an- nounced tthat a battle of wits would be on. Grade 8 team com- prised of Doreen Aird, Jim Tay- lor, Pat Slaght and Hal Spencer. The Home and School enlisted as their team, Mrs. H. Mallett, Mrs. D. Stanley, Mrs. A. Todd and F. Purdy. A very fine ed- ucational battle of wiits ensued with Home and School winning by a very narrow margin, final score 15-14. Mr. Whitham thanked these very able and clever students for showing us all what they can do. Suitable prizes were given to all contestants. Meeting closed with the '"'Queen." C.G.1.T. ; The Sunshine Gals C.G.1.T. of Cobalt United Church held 'their regular meeting at the home of their leader; Mrs. A. Svekers, on Thursday, January 22, The Wor- ship \service was conducted by Gail Stoughton. A sleigh ride party was planned for January 29, and a decision was made to extend" an invitation to the Ex- plorers Group of the United Church to join with them for this party. Meeting .closed with Taps and Mizpah benediction. 85th Birthday A number of relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mrs. Jessie Johnston on Sunday evening, January 25th to honor a well known and popular senior resident of Cobalt, in the person of Mrs. James Bowers. Mrs. Bowers who is Mrs. Johns- ton's mother was celebrating her 85th birthday on Monday, January 26th, she enjoys very good health and is very active, seldom missing a bingo. The evening was spent playing bingo after which Mrs. Johnston served a delicious lunch which featured a birthday cake with candles and .made by Mts. Johnston. The relatives and friends who had gathered for this occassion de- cided instead of presenting Mrs. Bowers with gifts to present her 4 with a cash token accompanied by a birthday card from-each, so she. could play more bingo, knowing she would enjoy it. Mrs. Bowers beside going to almost all the bingos in town goes to the market every Saturday morning where she meets many old friends, re- gardless of tthe weather, she is on hand to chat. Rebekah Lodge One visitor was welcomed, when Noble Grand, Sister Agatha Cam- eron, presided at 'the regular St. Andrew's Women's Federation will hold a A VALENTINE TEA AND BAKE SALE in the basement of the church SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14th 3 to 6 p.m. meeting of Silver Rebekah Lodge on Wednesday, January 28th in the 1.0.0.F. Hall. There were twenty-three members present. Lodge opened in regular form. Routine business was dealt with. Sister Muriel Tresidder who re- ported for ithe sick committee, said there were a number of members families bereaved and also a num- ber ill. Correspondence was deait with and filed. Sister Greensides reminded the: members of their donation for the Penny Sale to be held February 19th. Final arrange- ments were made for the an- nual party for Rebekah, 1.0.0.F. and their families to be held on January 30th. A number of mem- bers thanked their unknown friends for cards, and a number also thanked the [Lodge for flowers and cards sent during bereavement and illness. : Visiter Sister D.
