THE LAST Thursday, February 12, 1959 dent of Grand Camp D.O.S. in Canada, was welcomed and mem- bers of Bonnie Doon Camp were pleased- at the ~honour that was given Mrs. Houghton in being elected to this office. Mrs. G. Lonsdale, a life member and ten past presidents were also extended a welcome. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Mrs. S. 'Wink, followed by the Financial statement and treasur- er's report. There was a donation approved to Riverdale Hospital. The W.A. of St. James' Anglican Church will cater for a banquet to be held on February 21. There was a gift donated by Mrs. Reoch, and won by Mrs. M. White. Mrs. H. Smith gave a wonderful report on the Burns Supper held in the King Ed- ward Hotel, Toronto,- and Mrs. Smallman from Haileybury gave the report of the two days sessions in the absence of the. delegates, Mrs. Whorley and Mrs. Jeffreys. Mrs: M. McLeod also reported that Mrs. Houghton had received a bouquet of red roses from her daughter, Nora and family, at her installation, also a beautiful white Bible from an old friend of Mrs. Houghton's, Miss Alice Brown, she was also the recipient of several other gifts and congratulatory mes- sages. After the meeting was ad- journed, Mrs. S. Mallett and her committee served delicious re- freshments. Bingo Share the Wealth Bingo of St. Patrick's Parish was held on Fri- day, February 6. Winners are as follows: 1st, Mr. J. Keon, 2nd Mrs. Carl Osterburg, 8rd J. Brunette, 4th Mrs. J. A. Wright, 5th Mrs. M. Leonard, and Mrs. A. Nadeau. Door prize was shared by Mrs. A. Sylvester and Mrs. W. Smith. Eastern Star Bingo Shuniah Chapter No. 41 Order of the Eastern Star held a very successful bingo on Thursday even- ing, February 5.in the Community Hall. Having placed his call, he was asked by the operator to de- posite the required amount in the phone. 'Having in his possession different slugs, he deposited one in the -amount of 25 cents; but since the modern pay-phones can differentiate true from counter- feit money, the mechanism refused to operate as soon as the first slug was inserted. The operator immediately noti- fied the Local Manager of the Northern Telephone _ Company, who upon investigating discovered the trouble was caused by a metal slug. : He immediately contacted the Chief of Police and told him of his findings. A quick check show- ed Boucher was registered at the hotel and a visit was paid to him in his room. There the Chief found a quantity of slugs of various sizes which in actual money would have amounted to $8.00. At the Police Station when Boucher emptied his pockets a further' $2.00 in slugs were found, day, February 9 in the Legion Hall, Mrs. Sara-Wink presided. Colours were 'advanced by Mrs. J, O'Rourke and Mrs. H. Cooper. One minutes silence was observ- ed in memory of fallen comrades. Minutes of previous meeting were read by Mrs. A. Fleming and ap- proved; Mrs. Whitehead reported several! members are ill and Mrs, Jennings is still a patient in hos- pital. There was a discussion on a tea and bake sale, further plans will be! made and date set at the next meeting. Financial statement was given by Mrs. Whitehead in the absence of Mrs. Jennings and bills were approved for payment. Mrs, Q'Rourke reported on card parties! and bingos.
