Abrahams Ladies Wear Opens New It was 50 years ago that Nimer Abraham. arrived in Haileybury and opened his clothing store, ca- tering to the needs of residents of the District town, and settlers in the surrounding farming and min- ing communities. This year the family is marking . the Golden Anniversary of the founding of the business, and in- dicating its faith in the future of Haileybury and the District by opening a modern Ladies' Wear store in the town and completing plans for the expansion of its men's store in the near future. From the first Mr. Abraham's business prospered and received its only setback when the town was levelled in the disastrous fire of 1922, but new supplies were im- mediately ordered, and the family looked after the needs of the com- munity from a temporary store, which housed the business until the present building on Ferguson St. was completed. The oldest store by far in Hailey- bury, it has for some time shown evidence that it was inadequate to house the growing concern. The old theory of supply and' demand became an obvious truth when Ab- raham's were confronted with a greater demand for their services than could be possibly accommo- dated in their already cramped quarters. Dress Shop Mr. A. A. Abraham, more com- monly known to his friends and customers as "Abey" has owned and managed the store for many years and is a familiar face to everyone in this area. "'Abey"' proudly announces the opening of the new store as a milestone in the 50 years that the store has been serving the community. The attractive new Ladies' Wear store will be operated by Mr. and Mrs. T. Assal of Haileybury. Mrs. Assal is the former Miss Abraham. The building which will house the new Ladies'" Wear was formerly owned by the Red & White chain stores, located on the corner of Broadwood and Ferguson streets directly opposite the Strand Theatre. Abraham's plan to have a \com- pletely new line of spring mer- chandise on hand for the opening on Friday morning. Ladies, child- rens and infants clothing includ- ing footwear, will be displayed in the latest styles and colours. The planning for the new Ab- raham's Ladies' Wear has been progressing since last December. The store has been completely renovated to make their spacious accommodations as attractive and efficient as possible. Two fitting rooms have been erected for con- venience of their- customers, the store has been tiled, painted and i _ "We Serve P. O. Box 976 TRI-TOWN CONSTRUCTION CO.
