Mr. Trusler of the North Bay group requested the moral support of the NOUA. Rev. Hilliard of Copper Cliff, speaking for the NOUA said that they were deeply grateful to the Northeastern Uni- versity Committee for their in- vitation to federate with them and assured him that they would re- ceive the same moral support as those groups promoting the loca- tion of the University northern centres. He assured him that there would be no reason not to give their moral support since they may federate with them at some future date. A few men pre- sent including some Protestant ministers, were members of both groups and expressed their inten- tions to remain members of both groups. Both organizations are working to promote advanced education in northern Ontario. They are not at cross-purposes. with each other. The colleges formed by each would admit students of any denomina- tion. A federated University so formed would form a nucleus for a Federation of Colleges such as there is in Toronto. in other || Thursday, March 12, 1959 Dr. Lautenslager was asked when he thought the NOUA could be ready to begin its College. He said * with the proper support of the plan it should be possible to establish a College in two years provided there is a Roman Cath- olic college to federate with. Father Weaver, principal of the North Bay college, said the Cath- olic Junior College could be start- ed in the fall of 1960. The North- eastern University Committee has obtained a 475 acre University site in North Bay and is offering free land to any group desiring to establish. a University College in federation with the Catholic col- lege. At present the Catholic Order The Haileyburian | Page '7 of the Society of Jesus have a charter college in Sudbury. All of us require the services of University trained people, doctors, lawyers, ministers, teachers, ete. The problem of a shortage of Uni- versities concerns everyone indi- rectly and a great many people directly. Because of over-crowding, Universities have had to raise their entrance standards and we are already losing men and women who could serve their country well if they could obtain further education. By 1965 the present University population will have doubled. By 1972 it will have tripled. We hope the people of the North will respond to their need, EMPIRE NEW LISKEARD -- PHONE MI 7-4102 PERFORMANCES Mon to Sat. doors open at 6:30 p.m, Shows at 7 and 9 on single bill On Double Feature last complete show at 8:15 p.m. Last Showing To-Day: "SONG OF BERNADETTE" FRI. & SAT, (DOUBLE FEATURE) "ATTILA™ TECHNICOLOR All Star Cast "BLUE BLOOD" TECHNICOLOR Bill Williams MATINEE SATURDAY -- 2 P.M.
