J. Hack of Browns Line in Alder-= wood, it being the occasion of the celebration of the 50th an- niversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Craig of New Liskeard who were married in that town on February 19th, 1909. There were five children as the result of their marriage. The eldest a daughter Cora, who later mar- ried Harold Barton of Coxwell Avenue, Toronto who have a daughter now Mrs. J. Allen, unfortunately Mrs. Barton passed away some years ago which left four boys, Harold of New Lis- keard, Gordon of Oak Ridges, Howard of Lakeview and Clifford in Durham, England. They now are the grandparents of 14 child- ren. Two live in England whom they have not seen yet but hope to see soon. : Mr. and Mrs. Craig are among the Pioneers of the north country both arriving here in 1902, travel- ling by boat from the foot of Lake Temiskaming to Haileybury. They both were present when the steel was laid for the railway which is now ithe Ontario North- land. They were here also when silver was first discovered at Co- balt. Mrs. Craig was. the. eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Faulkner of Haileybury. Mn. Craig's occupations have been quite varied starting in Haileys bury as a clerk in a men's furnish- ing store. oe After the disastrous fire of 1906, he took to carpenter work, and followed by accepting a posi- tion with the Dominion Express Company and culminating with being Agent at New Liskeard. Being moved from place to place and having no permanent home to carpentry. After being discharged from the Army in 1917 the family mov- five years, moving then to Alder- wood: where they lived for 17 years. They then moved to a small farm at Richmond Hill where they lived for 5 years and finally ended up back north where !they now live. During the time the couple liv~ ed in Toronto and Alderwood, Mr. Craig spent seven years: building greenhouses for the. King Con- struction Co. He also spent two years at the Research Enterprises at Leaside. Mr. and Mrs. Craig' have a comfortable new home near New Liskeard and-on completion of their visit in Toronto they' re- turned to their home and with which they received from their many friends. According to a survey of Ameri- can Indians sponsored by the Cana- dian Cancer Society the mortality rate from cancer among Indians is only about half as great as with whites. Cancer is the disorganized, un- regulated growth of body cells.
