Many Persons Help With Quonia Show The great activity which has de- veloped in New Liskeard during the past few days in connection with the "Quonta" One-Act Drama Festival draws attention to the good community spirit found in New Liskeard behind every effort of this kind. s Asked- for his opinion on how plans were progressing, the Hon- orary President, Mr. J. McKay- Clements, said that:it was amaz- ing how the various committees and other groups in town had ral- lied round to ensure the success of the event. ~~ He made particular mention of the backing that had been given by the Recreation Commission. whose members in the past had support- ed the New Liskeard Little Theatre Group. The members are: Councillors Don White and Jack LaCarte; Council Appointee Bob McKnight; Walter Chatwin, representing the Board of Education; Eric Eastman of the Community Hall Board and two representatives from _ the Arena Board, Elwood Kidd and Bud Wynn. The responsibility for the type of trophy donated by the Town of New Liskeard was placed with the commission who also made a loan of $100 to the Quonta Festival Committee to assist with initial financing. Mr. McKay-Clements _ stated: "We do not hear enough about the work of the Recreation Committee and I would like the public to know that this is one example of the good work they are doing to devel- op the cultural side of our com- munity's life." The Town of New Liskeard do- nated a handsome cup to be awarded for the Best English Play at the Festival and a cup to be re- tained by the group taking part in the play. They can do this because of the contribution of manufacturing to our national progress and prosperity. Perhaps Canadians can buy things cheaper elsewhere than in Canada. But if they are not willing to pay Gadadiaa prices for Canadian products, our own workers will not for long be able to receive Canadian wages. Nor will Canadian governments receive the tax- revenues they re- "quire to sustain Canada's welfare programmes. There is a price tc pay for everything, including the Canadian standard of living.
