Last week's picture of Ernie Walton and his big catch of speckled trout had no sooner appeared in The Speaker than the same evening the shores of Bartle Lake were almost lined with firshemen, all trying to not only beat Ernie's catch, but also to' get a strangle hold on. The Speaker and Haileyburian $15. The night was cold and so were the fishermen. Even Les Evans was out to try his luck -- without avail, And while the fishermen have been quite numerous -- at one time Vie Medland could not even get to his own dock -- and didn't like it, the waters of the lake grudgingly gave up very few specimens. About two fish a day, except Friday when Terry Mathe- son got a couple in the morning and about two more were landed in the evening. Gordon Walling- ford also was successful in landing a couple in two or three sessions. This week-end promises to be bet- ter -- at least that is the hope of AND EVERY ANGLE ICE PORE. WITH PLANS! ._ PLUMBING HEATING MI. 7-4359 EEEARD some fishermen and they plan to take to the hinterland in search of the big ones. McKnight, East- man, Spencer and Company have been out this week and bought new compasses and are planning on hit- ting the trail again, but not plan- ning on duplicating last year's feat in getting lost. Reports are that they are getting Pete Proulx to ride herd on them, and if Pete keeps them in sight of his camp on Lake Animanipissing they should arrive back home in one piece and not have too much to report. Other parties are planning on heading up in Divide Lake country. With luck, Ernie's three pound, seven ounce trout should be toppled from top place--but not by me. With a few more days of warm weather seeding should be- quite general in Temiskaming, which will be somewhat earlier than last year. Farmers are reporting that the land is drying nicely and that with an early start a good crop is looked for. The rain on Monday may have delayed the start some of them were going to make, but then others were hoping for a nice warm rain to bring out the rest of the frost and start the pas- tures going again. Europe here we come. There seems to be quite a number of Tri- Town residents heading for over- seas this summer. To head the parade will. be Roy and Winnie Anderson who are leaving about May 20th for almost six weeks. The last time Roy was overseas was just before he was married -- sort of 'a last fling. He spent about six months on the other side of the pond and then returned and got married. Quite a group of New Liskeard Business Women are planning a safari this summer, with reports mentioning at least a dozen. Then a couple of W.I. mem- bers are also hitting the trail for England and the continent come early July. 1858--- Introduction of Canadian decimal monetary system. OS 2-5258 and Ronald] Newest Industry For Northland Establishment of Ansonville's newest industry, Nosov-Pedskalny Limited, should result in the equivalent of 25 permanent jobs for local residents. News came from the recently- formed construction firm's co- founder, Bill Pedskalny of Porquis, who said today that approximately 75 local people would be employed during the five month construc- tion season this year, and about five employees would be hired on a permanent basis. The firm, which plans to special- ize in pipeline construction, holds a contract with Northern Ontario Natural Gas Company Limited for construction of gas main exten- sions and service lines this year in the 17 franchised communities be- tween Cobalt and Hearst. Construction plans call for the installation of about 5,000 service lines -- the small underground gas pipes which connect street mains with customer's premises -- this summer. The project will begin early in May. Construction is scheduled - for Hearst, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Ansonville, Matheson, Ramore, Timmins, Schumacher, Porcupine, South Porcupine, Kirkland Lake, Englehart, New Liskeard, Hailey- . bury and Cobalt this summer. The construction contract be- tween the gas company and Nosov- Pedskalny stipulates that local la- bour is to be employed wherever possible on the project. from opening day Caught by Address Lake or stream Weighed at Address Witness PNOSS ID DAY, c.csececteccecenemas screenees TEMISKAMING SPEAKER AND HAILEYBURIAN Speckled Trout Competition deccupeacscuctccccccccccscssccccoevcesssscunsecceccceustscussccrscsscessesessevesesesveeesesesee TENPEh <:.-s2e2s-.
