Page 6 The Haileyburian Thursday, May 21, 1959 Around the Square Home and School Tea and Bake Sale | A very successful tea and bake sale was held on Friday, May 15th | at the Cobalt Community hall by the Cobalt Coleman Home and School Association. Guests were welcomed iat the door by Mrs. Stan Miller, president of the Associa- tion. The hall was attractively de- corated with moss, budding bran- ches and dafifodils. The tea table was covered with a white madeira cloth and was centered with a low arrangement of moss interspersed with trailing arbutus and daffo- dils. Tall yellow candles completed this arrangement. Pouring for the afternoon were executive members Mrs. H. A. Todd and Mrs. J. Koza. Individual tables~ were placed around the room for convenience of guests each attractive with its low bowl of daffodils: Girls from the Home Economics class of the Public School served the - guests. In charge of the bake table were : Mrs. H. Taylor and Mrs. J. Bur- 'ton. Looking after things in the ' kitchen were Mrs. A. Wallman, ; convener for the. tea, Mrs. A. Browne and Mrs. P. Slaght: Tea table arrangements and the decor- ating of the hall was looked after by Miss D. Reeder. Mention was made of the Rebekah scheme to , send souvenirs and pictures of Co- , Dalt to an American Rebekah j Lodge and the Oddfellows prom- }ised to assist the Rebekahs with i this project in any way they could. Some members will journey to the meeting in North Bay on May 23. Members 'wee advised that a pic- nie will be held in New Liskeard in June. Lodge closed in regular form. Brownies Receive Awards Seven Brownies were awarded the Golden Bar at the regular meeting of the 1st Cobalt Brownie Pack held Wednesday, May 6th, in the Community Hall. The badge is given for the completion of a series of twelve tests divided into four groups. - Intelligence, Handi- craft, Health and Service. The girls presented with the Golden Bar were Patsy Cambray, Linda Conti, Patricia Despres, Susanne Othmer, Jane Koza, Vivian Ro- mano and Diane St. Jean. The latter part of the meeting was held outdoors. The Brownies practised Semaphore, studied rules for good health, and several tests were passed. After playing games the meeting concluded with a sing-song and taps. Legion Card Party There was a fair turn-out for the Canadian 'Legion card party held Tuesday, May 12th .Prize winners were: Ist Mrs. E. Geck Sr., 2nd Mrs. H. Beeson, and 3rd Mrs. J. O'Rourke. Recreation Group Plans Minor Ball Cobalt -- Phil Cain, chairman, presided over the recent meeting of the Cobalt-Coleman. Recreation meeting held in the Township of Coleman office. Other members present. were D. McGugan, Mrs. B. Romano, L. Othmer, W. C. Inch @.C., R. Bazinet, Reeve Wm. Martin, and Miss Ines Conti, Sec- retary. = Treasurer. Also. present ) were Walter Frackleton: represent- ing the Midget Baseball League and H. W. Whitham chairman of the Cobalt Boy Scout Association. The minutes were read and a-fin- ancial statement given. Walter Frackleton. asked the committee if they would help the Midgets by purchasing sweaters and this request was granted. Correspondence included. letters from the Hudson Bay Mines Lim- ited in connection with the use of the Buffalo Slimes 'and a long let- ter from the Cobalt and Coleman Hockey» Committee outlining 'the wonderful work they have been doing. Conservation Boat On Lake Temisk. When district fishermen take their boats out on Lake Temis- kaming*Saturday for the opening of the fishing season, they will fing----- something new on the wide waters. The Department of Lands and Forests has noted that the big lake is becoming increasingly popular with more and -more anglers try- ing their luck each year.
