While you have admitted in your letter you are afraid of being beaten by the C.C.F. the Temiskaming Liberal Party have no such fears. | am sorry we cannot help you out but after all you have prepared your own stew. We are pleased to hear you taking full credit for the building of 30 schools in this dis- trict. My understanding is that the grant system for new schools is set up by the Education Act and providing a community qualifies under those terms and their school inspector recommends it, the provision of funds for new schools is automatic. It was nice to see you_at the opening ceremonies of all these schools, To my knowledge that is the only thing you had to do with them. It is news that you did so well for the New Liskeard & District Hospital. The grants were negotiated between Dr. McKinnon Phillips and the New Liskeard Hospital Chairman. Again it was nice to see you at the opening. About roads Bob. You mentioned the last Liberal Administration. At that time Bill Nixon personally arranged a tour through this district of some 60 provincial members of parlia- ment. On their return they approved an expenditure of more than $12,000,000.00 on roads in this area. You say your two terms total $504,000. That is only a small part of the amount paid for licences in this district. The present government has developed northern industry to the point that the President of Abitibi Pulp & Paper Co. has recently stated that "not a five cent piece will be spent on plants in Ontario by Abitibi Power & Paper Co." The same company have just completed a $21,000,000. plant in Michigan. We could have used this plant, Bob. There is no Home for the Aged in New Liskeard. You possibly refer to the Senior Citizens Home established by the United Church. | understand that they have received and are re- ceiving all the usual grants from both the Federal and Provincial governments that are available to every similar institution in the Province. Are: you suggesting something special was done by you on their behalf? It is about time to dust off the old highway promise of the Tri-Town By Pass. It has been helpful to you in the past two elections. While | must continue to believe that the district has been undersold in your term of office, at no time would | accuse you of underselling your .part in any coincidental de- velopment that has taken place in the north. Best Wishes Bob, Harvey Plaunt P.S. -- | hope you manage to beat the C.C.F. P.P.S. -- By the way WHAT HAVE YOU DONE personally to help industry and agriculture in this area? Keep up the correspondence, it has been very helpful. Published by Temiskaming Liberal Association = ao Serer torent ey eed Yn Seeman nnns =P aebetumenee ee ae meter nn tee i mn
