Across the Kitchen Cable By MRS. MAC I've had some assistance with ny column this week. This time it » comes from Mr. Joy and it is so zood that I'm going to use it as 1 monolog for some of. our pro- grams, Mr. Joy says that he en- » joys my write-ups about weddiliss » out they are too one-sided, so he / sent me the following clipping, | which speaks for itself; (I never 4 <new, I'll admit, that so much good j 20uld be said about mens' attire.) "Mr. Wilkins was attended by » Vir. Dubbs as groomsman. As the 2room approached the altar he was ) he cynosure of all eyes. He was ) charmingly clad in a suit, consist- ng ¢&. at, vest and pants. The | coat, cark maiterial, was draped } mider the arms. A pretty story was current among the guests that he coat thad been worn by his grandfather on HIS wedding day. The vest was sleeveless and met n the front. It was gracefully fashioned with pockets and was »ield together ait tthe' back with a strap and buckle. Conspicuous Ficross the front of the vest was i he groom' s favorite piece of jew- lery, a large watch, the bride's sift to the groom, which fiashed ) and gave the needed touch of ) omilliancy to a costume in perfect »aste and harmony. The effect was very chic, His neck was encircled iby a collar and around tthe collar, a tie was loosely knotted so that it rode: up under his left ear with that studied carelessness that marks the supreme artistry in dress. Mr. Dubb's costume was essentially like that of the groom, and as the two stood at the altar, a hush of- admiration enveloped the audience at ithe complete har- mony. of their raiment. Neither Mr. Wilkins or Mr. Dubbs wore a hat. As Miss Wright led her groom from the nuptial ceremony, it was noted that she wore a conventional veil and orange blossoms." I must find out when Mr. and Mrs. Joy are having a wedding anniversary and be prepared to do him justice. Thanks again, Mr. Joy. » * ke O* I looked out of the window the other day and saw what looked like a huge bird's nest blowing across the street. Then I saw a pair of legs under it and when it had progressed a little farther, I discovered it was a man (?)) wear- ing a large straw hat with straw fringe about six or seven inches long. all around it, flapping gaily up and down in ithe wind. Women's * eK "A tendency to look back can be costly. Lot's wife looked back and turn- ed into a pillar of sallt. A motorist on a winding road looked back and turned into a pil- lar of cement." I read a smart editorial in the Christian Science Monitor recently on signs of summer. It was called "Under ithe Hot Dog Sun", and among other signs it mentioned the irregular buzz of lawn mowers and thé intermittent buzz of flies, oil sales down, gasoline and char- coal sales up, bathing suits flap- ping. from car door handles and wet, sandy tracks from the front door to the refrigerator. It also added ithalt there is just as much news of grimness in the world as there was fast winter, but we 'seem ito be able to see the available good things better in the light of the summer sun. * Do * It is always nice to receive a letter from one of 'the pioneers of the town and this week I was pleased to receive one from Mrs. Sam Craig, who came to Hailey- bury in 1904. In her letter she spoke of the: "Old Cemetery", which was in use when she ar- rived and the land for it, she be- lieves, was donated by C. C. Farr. She understands that some work has been done in it to improve its looks and suggested that the name, "Pioneer Cemetery" 'be used to designate it in future. She has also suggested that a re- cord of it be made for the Hailey- bury Women's Institute Tweeds- muir History: Thank you Mrs. Craig, for writing to me. * oe ® (Intended for last week) This week I have received a program of the ACWW conference' which Mrs. Beach and I will be attending in Edinburgh and it is a very full program and excep- MQ 'T"EhjFPrRFHrdndww _ SUNDAY, 1:15 TO 4:45 Interruption is for the maintenance of 'equipment at Haileybury D.S. Its theme is "Looking Ahead" on roads to a better world through understanding each . other, each other's cultures, the youth of to- day and through technical assist- ance. There will be many discus- sions on these topics and we have asked to be placed on different subjects in order to compare notes later, thus getting more out of the discussions.
