The president, Mrs. S. Winks, presided over the meeting which was at- tended by nine visitors from the Haileybury Branch. Mrs. J. Under- wood and Mrs. J. O'Rourke ad- vanced the colours. Routine busi- ness was conducted with a dona- tion approved for the Cobalt Silver team of the Midget Boys Ball Club, Plans were discussed for a banquet which the Auxiliary is catering for on June 19 for Mines Rescue. In the absence of Mrs. Whitehead, the sick report was given by Mrs. Winks. The Annual Picnic will be held on July 19 at Underwoods home on Highway 11 south of Cobalt, the expenses for this to be shared with the men's branch. Plans were finalized for a Penny Sale and Bingo which is to be held in September. The monthly draw was won by Mrs. D. Moore. A pot luck supper for members is to be held on Tuesday, June 16, in the Legion Lounge. At the conclu- sion of the meeting interesting films were shown and a lovely lunch was served by Mrs. J. Jones and her committee. Eighth Birthday On Monday, June 8, Mrs. Lou Urban entertained at her home in honor of her sister Linda Dayid who had recently celebrated her eighth birthday. Games were play- ed and enjoyed by the youngsters. Mrs. Urban assisted by her mo- ther, Mrs. J. David served a lovely lunch. St. Pats Bingo St. Patrick's Parish Bingo was held on Friday, June 12, in the Legion Lounge with a very good at- tendance. All the specials were Share the Wealth and the winners were Mrs. R. Sullivan, Mrs. Bab- ineau, Mrs. D. Swaychuck, Mrs. F. Chapman, Mrs. C. Osterberg, Mrs. C. Labelle, Mrs. M. Cunningham. The door prize was shared by Mrs. L. O'Shaughnessy and Mrs. P. Hitchen of Haileybury. Birthday Party Fraser Frackleton whose fourth birthday was June 9, was guest of honour at a party held June 11 at his home. The young friends spent the afternoon playing and later were served refreshments' by Fraser's mother, Mrs. W. Frackle- ton. Surprise Party Friends from Bonnie Doon Camp D.O.S. gathered at the home of Mrs. F. Chapman on June 10 for a farewell tribute to Miss Ethel Herbert, one of their members who is leaving to make her home in Sudbury. A pleasant evening was spent in playing bingo and wound up with the singing of '"'She's a Jolly Good Fellow' and 'Auld Lang Syne" with the presentation of a gift by Mrs. Madge McLeod on behalf of the D.O.S. A lovely lunch was served by Mrs. Chap- man assisted by Mrs. Madge Mc- Leod. Mrs. Marion Allingham Cobalt residents were greatly | shocked last week with the sudden ! death of Mrs. Marion Allingham. : She had just come off duty at Mis- ericordia Hospital on June 5 when _ She collapsed and passed away on June 6. Born in Cobalt in 1909, she was the daughter of the late William . and Margaret McAllister, and re- \eeived her earlier education in Co- balt. She was a graduate nurse and had been nursing at the Mis- ericordia Hospital in recent years. In 1942 she was married in Tim- mins to the late Earl Allingham who died in 1954 at Belioel, Que. The 'body rested. at the Buffam Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Tues- day, June 9, when funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Church. Requiem High Mass was celebrat- ~ed by Father Perron of North Co- balt. : Pall-bearers were C. Vezina, P. Stoughton, ---F. Purdy, M. McKin- non, D. Cole and -W. Moriarty. Left to mourn her passing are two daughters, Barbara and Pat Allingham, three sisters, Mary (Mrs, F. Horne). of Elliot Lake, Irene (Mrs. G. Masters) of Tim- mins, Jean (Mrs. E. Bateman) of Belleville and one brother, Bob McAllister of Cobalt. 4 Burial was in the Catholic Ceme- tery at Mileage 104. Attending the funeral from out- of-town were Mr. and Mrs. C. Masters and son of Timmins. Sixth Birthday Mrs. Jack Mathews was hostess to six friends of her daughter Heather on the occasion of. her sixth birthday, June 8. Games were arranged for the entertain- ment of the young guests. Mrs. Mathews assisted by Mrs. I. Tres- idder, Mrs. D. Loach and Mrs. B. MacDonald of New Liskeard serv- ed a lovely- lunch and birthday cake, which Mrs. Tresidder had so attractively iced. Silver Rebekah Noble Grand Sister Agatha Cam- eron presided over the regular meeting of Silver Rebekah Lodge when they met Wednesday, June 10. The meeting opened in regular form and Sister Cameron welcom- ed Sister C. Duncan of Northern Light Lodge, Haileybury, and Sis- ter D. Stanley of Victor Lodge, B.C. Routine business was followed through and roll call showed one officer absent. In her report for the C.P.T. Sister Kangas reported that she and Mrs. E. Greening had made the regular visit to the Hail- eybury San and that a Tag Day is planned for the near future. Vice- Grand Sister C. Birtch reported that several members had 'been ill and cards were sent out. A number of members thanked the Lodge and unknown friends for gifts and cards which they had received. The Re- bekah Degree was conferred on Mrs. H. Confiss and Mrs. A. Doon- an. A decision was made to re- serve the Community Hall for Oc- tober 9, for the fall bazaar. A com- mittee was appointed to arrange the articles to be sent to the Lodge in Missouri. At the conclusion of the meeting, lunch was served by the social and entertainment com- mittee. Past Noble Grands On Friday, June 12, the Past Noble Grands met at the home of Mrs. Vera Cassidy with eight mem- bers present. The president, Mrs. H. Parcher, presided over the meeting at which a second baby layette for this year was complet- ed and this is to be handed over to the V.O.N. to be used when re- quired. The September meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs. Louise Richards. The lucky draw was won by Mrs. Hilda Parcher. The meeting concluded with a lunch being served by Mrs. Cassidy assisted by Mrs. C. Larsen. 0.E.S. Visitors were present from North Bay, Toronto, New Liskeard and Powassan for the meeting on Tues- day, June 9, of Shuniah Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in the Oddfellows Hall, Cobalt. This was the official visit of Worthy Grand Matron, Mrs. E. Spear of Dunville, Ontario, who was accompanied by her husband. Miss Helen Sibley of New Liskeard, District Deputy Grand Matron was also in attend- ance. Mrs. E. Morgan Worthy Ma- tron presided over the meeting at which 58 were present. Routine business was conducted after which lunch was served. Cobalt Lions eS District Governor Clifford, Cox of Temagami conducted the instal- lation eeremony last Monday: even- ing when the new executive of: the Cobalt Lions Club was inducted at their regular meeting held in the Community Hall. The new execu- tive is as follows: President, Ernie Thibeault; 1st vice-president, Ro- ger Gareau; 2nd_ vice-president; Lloyd Humphreys; 3rd vice-presi- dent, .Bob Sopha; secretary, Kurt Leopold; treasurer, Albert Riley; tail twister, Denis Larabie; Lion tamer, Ernie Bilodeau; one' year directors, Lawrence Buck and Lou Urban; two year directors, Claude Lacroix and Ted Bilodeau. The meeting was called to order by the President Pat Slaght follow- ed by the singing of ""O Canada', the Code of Ethics read by Bob Sopha and Grace by Hubert Au- dette. Throughout dinner a_ sing- song was led by Ernie Thibeault and Bob Sopha with Ford Chapman at the piano. The President ad- vised that a Sensational Comedy Show of Hypnotism -- Magic and Mindreading by the Great Merlin would be sponsored by the Cobalt Lions Club to be held at the Cobalt Community Hall on Friday and Saturday, July 3 and 4. A full ev- ening of entertainment will be in store with a two hour show of hil- arious fun and mystery. A report on the preparations for the Charter Anniversary Night to be held Mon- day, June 22,-was given by John Damiani. Four members had been up to the Misericordia Hospital to \have their blood typed and other club mémbers were expected to have their blood typed at a later date. The president Pat Slaght pre- sented the incoming president Er- nie Thibeault with his president's pin and John Damiani presented the past-president's pin to Pat Siaght. It was decided ito hold a special director's meeting on Mon- day, June 29, to approve all ac- counts and finalize all business for the past year. The president expressed his thanks to all the officers and mem- bers of the club for the co-opera- tion and help he had received dur- ing the past year. Civic Reception Mrs. Mary Houghton, Grand President of Daughters of Scotland in Canada and Mr. Houghton have received an invitation from the Mayor and Council of the Corpora- tion of the City of Toronto to at- tend a Civic welcome to Her Ma- jesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh on the 29th day of June 1959 at 11:45 in the forenoon at the City Hall, Toronto. Mrs. Mary Houghton has the honour of representing the Daughters of Scotland in Canada and she and Mr. Houghton have special seaits' arranged for invited guests. 7 Butter Production A report recently released by the Department of Agriculture show that in the four months end- ing April 30, 1959, the amount of creamery butter produced in Tem- iskaming was 188,674 pounds, an increase over the same period last year of 6,690 pounds. During April, 1959, the .amount -made was 84,- 498; an increase of 4,052 pounds over the same month in 1958. The production. of ~Cheddar cheese remained about the same, the amount for the four months ending April 30, 1959, being 31,356 pounds, an increase of only seven pounds over previous year.
