The final meeting of 'the Cobalt- Coleman~- branch of the V.O.N. took the form of a farewell party for the local V.O.N. Miss Gwen Miller and ithe Regional Director Miss C. Maddaifor which was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moss, O'Brien Property, on Thursday, June 18th. Several con- tests were conducted followed by a sing-song and Mrs. Ernie Geck favoured 'the gathering with a few vocal solos. A presentation was made by Mrs. Cora Duncan, Presi- dent of the local branch, tto Miss Maddafor and Miss Miller. These were attractive desk sets with mountings of five different types of ores found in the Cobalt min- ing area. Meeting The closing meeting of the Cath- olic Women's League of St. Pat- rick's Church was held Monday, June 15th at the rectory. The meeting opened with a prayer by Father Kavanaugh. The roll call showed 13 members present. The main business was election of Of- ficers for 1959-60 who will be: President, Kay Riley; 1st. Vice- President, Mrs. J. O'Rourke; 2nd. Paul's Choir Honors Minister Rev. and Mrs. J. W. W. Wilkin- son, who are leaving St. Paul's United Church here for new duties at Huntsville, have been guests of honor at several church affairs. Members of the choir and their escorts entertained at the home of the organist, Mrs. A. H. Herity, in New Liskeard, when an evening of games and singing was enjoyed 'and a presentation of a coffee per- colator was made to Mr. and Mrs. Wilkinson. On Friday, June 19, the congre- gations of the MHaileybury and North Cobalt United Churches held an enjoyable pot luck supper in honor of the Winkinsons. During the: evening, Mrs. Wilkinson was presented with a corsage of yellow roses and on behalf of the congre- gation, Mr. C. F. Tuer presented Mr. Wilkins~n with a purse. On Monday, June 22, Mrs. M. B. St. Laurent and Mrs. Harry Cooper were appointed to the sick com- mittee for the 1959-60 term. The gift of the month was won by Mrs. J. Yanyk. Birthday cups and saucers were presented ito Mrs. Z. Duval, Mrs. F. Marcotte and Mrs. D. Cole after which birthday greetings were sung by those pre- sent. The lunch committee for September will be Mrs, D.. Cole, Mrs. F. Marcotte, Mrs. Iris O'Shaughnessy and. Mrs. H. Bees son. The meeting came to a close with the singing of "God Save the Queén" followed by a game of bingo and lunch, Cobalt Personals Mr. and Mrs. Herb Mulligan and Gerry left Monday for Thessalon where they will be vacationing for two weeks. Mr. Mulligan will go on from there to Sault St. Marie where he will attend the recep- tion for the President of the Re- bekah Assembly Sister Margaret Rose to be held on June 27. Mrs. Leo Scully left for St. Cath- erines to spend. a few weeks visit- ing Mrs. A. H. Gillard, Constable Hugh Wright and his mother, Mrs. J. Wright spent Wed- nesday in North Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Hastings Connelly received word recently of the birth of their first grandchild, a son, Patrick John, born to Mr. and Mrs. James Hayden, nee Betty Connelly of Montreal on Saturday, May 30. Miss Ethel-tHerbert has given up her apartment in the Adams-block and returned to Sudbury where she will reside with her sister, Mrs. Amy Perry. Miss Herbert has spent the past three weeks visit- ing relatives and friends in Hailey- bury and Cobalt. Miss Dorothy Tresidder, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. I. Tresidder was a patient in Haileybury hospi- tal where she underwent a tonsil- lectomy. Miss Shirley McLeod of Bramp- ton is visiting friends in Cobalt. Mr. and Mrs. John Damiani, Mr, and Mrs. Jerry Presse, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Bilodeau, Mr. and Mrs, Ernie Bilodeau, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Bates and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Slaght motored to Angiliers on Wednes- day, June 17, to attend the An- gliers Lions Club Ladies' Night and official visit of Zone Chairman John Damiani. While there the members of the Cobalt Lions Club picked up the gong and gavel of the Angliers Club. Mr. Albert Svekers of Siscoe Me- tals, O'Brien, visited Cobalt over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Don McGugan and family motored to Charlton Friday night and on 'their return they were accompanied by Mr. McGugan's mother, Mrs. D. C. McGugan who will be visiting in Cobalt for awhile. Fun Fair The Fun Fair sponsored by a number of MHaileybury school children last Saturday 'afternoon was quite successful, netting the sum of $59.27.-The winner of the (Mr. Carm Done- gan, donated it to the fund, bring- ing 'the total up to $69.27, which will be turned over to the Rotary Club for the Crippled Children's Fund. Among the bingo winners at the' Fair were Roger Allard, Heather Pearson, Ricky Dinesen, Mrs. K. Watson, Frances Caron and Susan Cavanagh. Those in charge of the Fair would like 'to thank everyone who helped in any way, either by ait- tending or donating, to make their project such a success.
