Page 8 The Haileyburian -- Thursday, June 25, 1959 Cohailis Make Cup Final Edge Redshirts at Bay New Liskeard Cohailis Soccer Club moved into the North Bay and District Association finals in the Star-Ontario Cup competition with a win over league-leading Ted's Redshirts on Sunday after- noon at North Bay. The Cohailis edged the North Bay and District Soccer Associa- tion league-leaders Ted's Redshirts 2-1 in the first round of the cup draw. The northerners are now scheduled to clash with the Hun- garians-Italia. Club winner, who meet here Thursday night at Lee Park. Diminutive fullback Bobby Eagleson, an ever-driving five- foot, four inch performer with the New Liskeard club, paced his team's attack. He fired both goals in the second half ito eliminate the Redshirts from further competi- tion in the cup draw. The favored Redshirts looked to be on their way to victory after inside left forward Eddy Frahm had scored the opening goal of the game, after only five minutes had elapsed in the first half. The goal was of the "'gift" variety, as Frahm worked around nicely and let loose with a drive which hit a Liskeard player and trickled in over the line. Liskeard goalie Hans Schnakenberg took a dive at the slow-moving ball and partially stopped it, but the damage was done. The score remained in favor- of the Redshirts. until the 15-minute mark of the second half and by then the field was slippery and wet from the rain which began near the start of the second half. The starry Eagleson let loose with a long sailing kick from just inside tthe center line, which Red- shirt goalie Dick Knopp, substitut- ing for regular goalie Heinz Em- sch, jumped high at, but failed to make the stop. This tied the game and gave the Liskeard boys some added spirit for the remainder of the game. With approximately 15 minutes remaining, the visitors were awarded a penalty kick after a Redshirt player handled the ball in front of the Liskeard net. Eagle- son was called on to take the shot. The latter*s first attempt sail- ed over the net, but referee Mario Mendicino ruled another shot, since one of the Redshirt players came in too soon. Eagleson made no mistake on his second try, knocking a hard low shot in the bottom left -cor- ner of the net. The Redshirts tried desparately to tie the game, but to no avail, as the Liskeard soeccerists protected goalie Schnakenberg until the final whistle. Forward Angelo Tittonel came close to tying the score at 1-1 dur- ing the first half after deking Knopp out of position, but hit the post, much to the chagrin of his mates. Eagleson, Tittonel and Schnaken- berg were the outstanding perform- ers. for the Cohailis, while Frahm, Joe McCabe, Steve Cochrane and Knopp were the pick of the losers.
