Peacock Summer Services:-- 10:00 a.m.--Divine Worship Local Golfers At Kirkland Several players from the local golf club attended the Visiting Day at the Kirkland Lake Club on Tuesday, July 14. The day was ideal and course in good shape. Coffee and donuts were served on arrival with sandwiches at the luneh 'hour and a buffet supper before leaving for their homes. Those from the club were Pearl Knox, Flora McFarlane, Audrey Bond, 'Grace McDonough, Jeanne Murphy, Nonnie Dean; Kathy and Joanné Murphy, Edith Camsell and Linda Grozelle. In Group A Kathy Murphy won a prize for the longest drive, it being 200 yards. Her sister Joanne won in Group B for longest drive. Pearl Knox won the hidden: hole. Others, were on the prize list, but lost out when cutting for winner. Golf Nofes The following golfers have qual- ified in the various events so far this season: Jemmett Cup--iNonie Dean and E. Camsell. Captains--A, Bond, P. Knox, K. Murphy, Ness M -Auley. Tuer--A, Bond, P. Knox. McIsaac--K, Musphy, P. Knox. The Business Girls Competition --E. Pollock. There are three more rounds in Thursday, July 16, 1959 Forest Rangers Honor Associate On Retirement ENGLEHART -- To honor his retirement from the Department of Lands and Forests, a. stag party cently for Ernest Gardiner. Mr. Gardiner had been Deputy Chief Ranger for the past 32 years in the Swastika District. Prior to that he had acted in the capacity of Scaler and Ranger in Latchford; Temagami, Elk Lake and New Liskeard area. About 100 members of the de- partment, local timber associates, friends and nieghbors were pre- sent and ithe evening was spent in card games. A radio was available and time was taken out to listen to the heavy weight chafnpionship fight. On behalf of his many friends and associates, Harold Stuart, Chief Ranger, Swastika, presented Mr. Gardiner with a _ reclining chair. Mr. Gardiner expressed his thanks and appreciation to his friends for their kindness and the pleasant evening. A buffet lunch was served. Mr. Gardiner was born in Dar- was held in the Legion hall re- lington Township, North of Bow- manville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Gardiner. and . came north to Thornloe with his parents in 1901. He and his father operated a saw mill until they were burned out in 1922..For two years Mr: Gardiner had charge' of tthe relief lumber for the 'burnt-out ~set tlers in that district. In 1926 he came to Englehart when he joined the Department of Lands and Forests. He married the former Adeline McDonald of Toms- town in 1924, who passed away in December, 1952. Mr. Gardiner has one daughter (Ernestine) Mrs. Jack Fuller who lives in Agincourt and three grand- sons. Mr. Gardiner plans to re- main in Englehart. Location of Haileyburian It has come to our notice several of our townspeople do not know where the Haileyburian office is at present, so for their informa- tion it is moved from the former building to a room over the Bank of Nova Scotia. At present Mrs. N. J. McAuley, Sr., is in charge in Mrs. MacDon- ald's absence who is on a trip over- seas. Girl Guides At Camp There were fifteen girls from Haileybury who attended the 'ten day camping activities at Lake Sesekinika. Five of these girls worked for . . |their Pioneer Badge, which meant. living in tents and attending to. their own needs.
