Farewell Tea For Mrs. Cummings Around fifty ladies were pre- sent at the golf club on Tuesday afternoon, August 18th, and at- tended a farewell tea in honor of Mrs. R. D. Cummings who is leav- ing on the 27th to make her home} in Toronto. The table was. iattractive with a lace cloth and was centered with pink and white snapdragons and pink candles. Mrs. George Pratt and Mrs. Fred Thompson poured tea while those serving the guests were Mrs. A. Moss, Mrs. J. H. Brumell, Mrs. C. Tuer, Mrs. H. Morgan, Mrs. WN. D: MclIsaac and Mrs. W. Bagshaw. Pickard made an amus- ing speech in presenting Mrs. Cumming with a gift from those present, of a string of cultured pearls, a broach and earrings to match of Yukon diamonds sand ex- tended to her good wishes in her new home. ae Popular Couple Leaving Town Friends and acquaintances of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Murray will be sorry to learn of them leaving town next week to make their home in Collingwood. They have been residents of Haileybury for 50 years having moved here in 1909 from Nova Scotia. They celebrated their 60th dia- mond wedding anniversary No- vember 24, 1957, in Haileybury, when all the family were present with the exception of their daugh- ter who was unable to attend. They will be near some of their family as their son James and daughter Madaline both reside in Collingwood. Two other sons, Garnet and Al- len and their families live in North Bay. The best wishes of the com- munity go with them to their new home, Fire Destroys Timmins Church Notre Dame de_Lourdes church, Timmins, was destroyed by fire early Monday as firemen fought 12 hours to quell the flames that ravaged. the block-long Roman Catholic church. Damage has been estimated at more than $250,000. Nobody was injured in the blaze. Three priests and one brother were in the vestry at the time. Notre Dame de Lourdes church was redecorated only last year at a cost of more than $7,000. Its most prominent feature, outside of the sanctuary, was a large painting given by Jules Timmins. Father Dominic said the fire started at the main altar. He said there were no candles lit nor was the vigil light burning at the time.
