He stated that the Cobalt club may have the opportunity to be the host club for the fall Dis- trict Rally early in October. The club voted in favour of accepting the offer provided suitable ar- rangements could be made for ac-. commodation of out-of-town guests and 'catering: Four members from the O'Brien-- Gowganda Lions club were on hand at Tuesday's meeting to pick] up their gong and gavel which the Cobalt.-club have held for some} time. A letter from Les Jones, Field Secretary of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind was read thanking the Cobalt club for the generous* donation made asa re- sult of the spring convass in this area and Mr. Jones pointed out that the Association was very grateful to the various ladies or- ganizations whg were responsible for the: door to door canvass. Following the regular meeting a Director's meeting was held under the chairmanship of presi- dent Ernie Thibeault. Routine matters were dealt with and com- mittee members appointed. The next dinner meeting of the Cobalt club will be held in the Legion Monday, September 21st. Eric Sigurd Greening Eric Sigurd Greening, for many years well known in Red Lake and North Western Qeubec mining cir- cles passed away on Tuesday, September 8, at Misericordia Hos- pital, Haileybury. Mr. Greening, who was 66 years old last June had suffered a stroke and died after a -week's illness. He was born in Gnarp, Sweden, and. in 1934 married the former Phylis Watterson of North Cobalt. They moved to the mining area of Red Lake where they resided for sev- eral years before going to North Western Quebec where he also was employed in the mining industry, a Thursday,:September 175, 1959) retiring only three years ago, and living in Cobalt ever since. He was a member of Silver Lodge 486 A.F. & A.M., as well as be- longing to the I.0.0.F. 379. Friends paid their respects to the late Mr. Greening at the Buffam Funeral Home where the body rested till the time of the funeral service which was held on Friday, Sep- tember 11, at 2 p.m. from St. James' Anglican Church in Cobalt. Rev. A. L. Chabot of New Lis- keard, a friend of the family, of- ficiated. Pall-bearers were David Wilton, Ronald Warren, Tommy Despres, Bud Morgan, Archie Fleming and Bill Hammerstrom. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Haileybury. A grave- side service was conducted by the I.0.0.F. and on Thursday evening a Masonic service was held at the Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife and two brothers living in. Canada, Gunnar of Matachewan and Wal- ter of Bancroft as well as a sister and brothers. still residing in Sweden.
