Lieut. | Robert M. Hetherington of the Haileybury and Cobalt Sal- vation Army Corps, has announc- ed that the Red Shield Campaign for 1960 will be held 'May 2nd to May 3ist., 1960. Mrs. E, R. Erickson and baby daughter, Kim, left last week for Pittsburgh' after spending a_holi- day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Glazier. ,Guests at the home of Mrs. M. J; Foster. over the week-end were Mrs, J. D. Foster of Ferris and Mrs. J. D. McDonald of Timmins. 'Mr. and Mrs. John Belland have returned from Bracebridge where they were the guests of their son, Asquith and Mrs. Belland, for two weeks. Mr. Belland did some pros- pecting while away. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Budgeon have as their guest, Mr. Budgeon's mother, Mrs. A, J. Budgeon of Toronto. Girls Auxiliary Starts Season The Girl's Auxiliary of St. Paul's Anglican church held their first meeting of the season last week, opening with the singing of a hymn. Following prayers and Bible reading, the election of officers for the coming year was held with Mrs.~S. Horncastle in tthe chair for the election. Barbara Humphrey was elected as president, with Sandra Hur- teau as_ vice-president, Sandra Rutt, secretary; Ann Cavanaugh, treasurer. Vicki Gilkes and Kar- en MacPherson were named as the social committee. ; The new president was in the chair for the business session dur- ing which it was decided the members would make nighties for their Dorcas work. Items from the Syllabus of the annual Festival were looked at and further discussion will be held at future meetings. The meeting "was closed with prayer. Celebrates Birthday And Anniversary Members of the family and neighbours combined to provide a surprise party for Mr. and Mrs. Fred Devins on the occasion of their forty-seventh wedding anni- versary. and Mrs. -Devins birth- day, which is the same as her wedding date. The party was held at the home of their son, Verne, and Mrs. Dev- ins and was attended by Mrs. Alma Ridley, Mrs. Lloyd Devins, Mrs. Lorne Fernholm, Mrs. Car- on and other neighbors. Mrs. Devins was born in frew, Scotland, and came her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hill- coat, to the Milberta area in 1905. She was married and farmed there for a number of years. They then moved to Toronto for eight years but came back to the north again. They spent the past fifteen years in New Liskeard, moving to Hail- eybury last spring. Mr. and Mrs. Devins have a family of four 'sons, George of North Bay, Verne and Lloyd in Haileybury and Stewart in Kirk- land, and three daughters, Mrs. Alma' Ridley, Haileybury, Mrs. Agnes Sherritt, New Liskeard and Mrs. Freda Soucie, North Bay. They also have sixteen grand- children and one great-grand- child. New Officers for CGIT Group The Northern Lights group of the C.G.I.T., who earned their chevrons last year, have started the new season with a bible study on 'the life of the Apostle Paul, under the guidance of assistant leader, Miss Jean Humphrey. Beverly. Childs is the new pres- Ren- ident, Susan Westlake, vice-pres- ident, Brenda Stringer, treasurer and Linda Quinlan, secretary. The group meet Monday nights at _seven-thirty. The . girls' all have new mystery mothers and are looking forward to finding out just "who is who'. A cook-out was enjoyed recent- 'ly on the beach at the south end of the lakeshore. This was followed by a marshmallow roast and ome; song. At the last meeting some Thanksgiving turkeys were made from pine cones. At the meeting last week the officers - were. installed by Mrs. E. Peacock. -The children are learning their purpose and mission band hymn. At.their meeting. they made a drum- which was used to call them to. their Friendship Circle. 3 The study of Africa and the story of -Boloji- was begun. Now they are anxious to know if Bol- oji caught "that sneaky old hip- po'" in next weeks story. The. children. are _ marching, clapping hands and learning to beat drums 'asthe African child- ren do and are becoming quite accomplished. = The meeting» closed with the Tallis Canon hymn and they left for home munching cookies. Gilkes - Labine Holy Cross church, Haileybury was the scene recently of a pretty fall wedding when' Noélla Claudette Labine,; daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs: H. Labine of Annsonville, became the bride of Robert David Gilkes, son of Mr. and Mrs. eb Gilkes of Hailey- bury. Given in marriage by Mr. N. Charbonneau, the bride chose for her wedding a street length gown of white embroidered nylon net over satin with scalloped neck- line. Her fingertip veil of tulle was draped from a wreath of orange blossoms and seed pearls. She carried a white' prayer book on which rested tiny red roses with white satin 'streamers knotted with lily of the valley. Miss. Helene» Montreuil of An- sonville: was maid of honour, 'wear- nylon and lace: Her bouquet was white 'mums. ~ Miss' Lisette Grenier of Cobalt, as bridesmaid, wore pale green nlyon sheer with bouquet of yel- low 'mums: Both attendants wore feathered -clip caps in colours to match their dresses. The best man was John Hall- worth of Port Carling. The ushers were Kenneth Gagnon of 'Hamilton and Clifford Hallworth of Hailey- bury. Mrs. V. Runnell, sister of the bride received the guestes at the reception which was held at the home of the groom's parents. She wore a dress or rose taffeta with black accessories. The groom's mother chose a dress of navy blue with white accessories. Both la- dies wore corsages of white 'mums. For a wedding trip to Western Ontario, the bride wore a suit of green wool with beige accessories and corsage of red roses. On their return they will make their home in Hamilton. The Weather : Max. After the regular 10 a.m. Sunday School classes, the child- ren gathered in the church audi- torium as each teacher led her class through an arbour of flow- ers. Mrs. de Vries introduced the teachers and pupils to the congre- gation. ~ PE | Mr. Geary Kelly was welcomed as the new superintendant.
