MAC I have a wonderful four-way 'Sview of the highway and streets, "from my office window and the other day during my lunch hour, Iwas watching the traffic going "up and down the hill and noting 'the taiing habits of each driver. 'And guess what? Every car driven wey aman during a period of fif- «¢#een minutes, clipped the corners s;much too close and every woman y driver kept out where she should the, leaving plenty of room for « other cars. And then men will say "Women: Drivers!" Bah! Another Women's Institute Area convention in the north has come -and gone. This year it was held in - Cochrane with approximately :twenty delegates from South and Centre Temiskaming. Mrs. Hag- gerty, provincial president and 'Wiss 'McKercher, director, were 'present, as well as Miss Laura 'Phippen and Miss Eleanor Knott, rome economists for Temiskaming 'and Cochrane. Next year the con- 'vention will be held in Englehart with Mrs. Bert Brownlee as chair- 'man and Mrs. A. K. Pummell as *secretary-treasurer. All delegates and members were sorry to say good-bye to Mrs. Haggerty, who will complete her three year term in November. News from the £ velyn Shoppe A Master Plan is what we need! Sée you at Evelyns! r a THE I think Betty Sarsfield who writes for the Woman's Page of the Rouyn-Noranda Press would be a nice person to know. Last week she was telling of her trials regarding packing' in readiness for moving to a new home and she mentioned so many things that happen tto me that I just felt we should get together and swap experiences. I'm not moving, (not ever a- gain, I hope, I've moved seven times in forty-two years) but when I decide that those old magazines and pamphlets must be cleared a- way, I start in right manfully. Then I see an article in one of them that I haven't read, (How did I miss that?) and the rest of the evening goes like this Gee, that's a good idea for the kitchen, I must keep ithat--Ha, that's the instructions I was looking for last Christmas, I must make those fire logs for the fire place this year-- Must keep that article on roses for Audrey--There's the pictures the kids wanted for 'their scrap- books--Some Day I'm going to hook a rug like that--and so on, ad infinitum. The result is that I do well if I throw out three of them, the rest go back for future reference. Ah,-Me, I fear I am what is called a "'putterer." Last Sunday afternoon, just as I had decided that I was going to get some of the letters written that have been due for several weeks, my sister-in-law, her hus- band and son came along and said, "we're going for a drive down the highway, come along with us." -Now, what could any- one say, on a beautiful autumn afternoon, to an invitation like that, except "'I'll be ready in two minutes? Well, I said it, and I was ready, and off we went. I took my camera and got several pictures of the lovely autumn col- oring as we went along. We saw a beaver house in the centre of one of the little lakes near the highway, too. My husband was down below North Bay, in what we call "The Brule,' to attend the Nipissing Ploughing match, last week and the trees down there are particularly beautiful in the fall. The Weather Max. Mr. Storey said that one of the men remarked, "We pretty near ly missed you." "They asked me if I stopped in Parry Sound, I told them I did- n't go that way. They also asked if we stopped in Barrie," he said. Mr. Storey said that when~ he arrived at Burks Falls, one of his scheduled stops, the police who had been alerted by the Way family were there waiting. "The police put the handcuffs on the men and led them away," he said. Police said the men had 'the shotgun and .22 in their posses- sion. Two other guns were left in the trunk of the Way car. The arrest was made by Constables Reg Moore and Norton \ Rhiness of the Burks Falls detachment. Fire Notes for Young In Heart Firecrackers and picnic bonfires are wonderful attractions for young of heart. But both entail dangers that stand thinking about. Firecrackers are no _ longer something for small children to play with. Displays should be strictly supervised and in any case subject to local ordinance. As for bonfires on the family outing, let there be adult ideas about the manner of start and stop. LET'S" MODERNIZE! ty THROW OUT THE OLD, LET'S INSTALL A HEATING UNIT, CAMPSACL ELECTRIC Co. LTD.
