Six hefty men lifted the editor on their shoulders and put him in a latest model sedan, and the whole town formed a parade in his honour. (AP) -- After- noon naps are out for Dallas firemen. Until recently, firemen 'were allowed a daily siesta from noon until 3 p.m., provided there weren't any fires to be fought. But the YVexas legisiature pas- sed a law, cutting the maximum work week for firemen in cities the size of Dallas from 67.2 to 60 hours. Chief C. N. QUEBEC (CP) -- Philippe Gagnon, Quebec superintendent of provincial parks, said a report early this month that a 70-pound lake trout had jbeen caught in Lake Albanel is "apparently a fish story." Mr. Gagnon, just returned from an inspection trip in the Mistassini Lake Reserve 280 air miles nonth of Quebec City said he asked game officials and Cree Indian guides in the area about the reported catch. "No one has heard of it," Mr. Gagnon said, "and if such a fish had been caught it would have been one of the main subjects of conversation." 'Lake Albanel tis south of the 100-mile long Mistassini Lake. Mr. Gagnon said lake trout weighing 40 to 45 pounds were caught this summer in the area but nothing as large as reported from Roberval. The Lake St. John Hunting and Fishing Association of Roberval had reported it had heard about| a 70-pound lake trout being caught. Record for lake trout is 63 pounds, two ounces, caught in 'Lake Superior in 1952, , ' Twelve Rules for Raising Children (Fort Erie Times-Review) Someone has said that there are no delinquent children, only de- linguent parents. That may be too much of a generalization but when a youngster heads for troub- le the start has usually been made inside, not outside, the home. And usually the start is not so much in the things that parents have done as in the things they have left undone. The police of Houston, Texas-- 'who may be presumed to have some expert knowledge on this subject, though that city bears no special reputation as-a place plagued by youthful lawbreakers --have summed up their opinions in a pamphlet they title '"'Twelve Rules for Raising Delinquent Children.'"' The dozen directives in this handy household guide are as follows:-- 1. Begin with infancy to give the child everything he wants. In this way he will grow up to believe the world owes him a living. 2. When he picks up bad words laugh at him. This will make him think he's cute. It will encourage him to pick up "cuter" phrases that will blow off your head later. 3. Avoid use of the word "wrong". It might develop a guilt complex. This will condition him to believe, when he is arrested for stealing a car, that society is against him and he is being per- secuted, 4. Never give him any spiritual training. Wait until he is 21 and then let him 'decide for himself'. VICTORIA. (CP).. --.. Willie Smith pulled away from a parking meter in. downtown Victoria, glanced in his rear view mirror and saw a car following close behind with its lights out. He stepped on the accelerator, but the car stayed with him, He slowed down; so did the other car. Finally, he pulled into a service station to let the other car pass. It kept right on his tail. When he got out he learned why he was being followed: He had apparently backed into the other car and dragged it from the parking meter to the service station--about one mile, Police called Keith C. Woods to pick up his wandering car. POLAND For years your friends have | benefited from our efficient parcel service, Low prices, no customs duty, no licence fee, special rates. Do everything for him so that he will be experienced in throwing all responsibility on others. 6. Let him read any printed matter he can get his hands on. Be careful that the silverware and drinking glasses are sterilized, but let his mind feast on garbage. 7. Quarrel frequently in the presence of your children. In this way they will not be too shocked when the home is brok- en up later. 8. Give a child all the spend- ing money he~wants. Never let him earn his own. Why should he have things as tough as you had them? 9. Satisfy his every craving for food, drink and comfort. See that every sensual desire "is gratified. Denial may lead to harmful frus- tration. 10. Take part against neigh- bors, teachers, policemen. They are all prejudiced against your child. 11. When he gets into real trouble, apologize for yourself by saying, "I never could do any- thing with him." 12. Prepare for a life of grief, You will be likely to have it. This set of rules that parents anywhere might well. tack up for daily reference--somewhere the children can see it, too. Haileybury Personals Mr. F. W.
