lias RS aa Friendship Group Visits Northdale COBALT -- About twenty-five members of the Friendship Group of Cobalt United Church travelled to New Liskeard on Tuesday, Oct- ober 20 to share the fifteenth year irthday anniversary of the Group the residents of Northdale s. Churchill, superintendent 'the Manor welcomed the Cobalt visitors on their arrival and in- vited them to circulate among the residents and get acquainted. Margaret Rajala presided over the meeting in the absence of Presi- dent Helen Mallett. The worship service opened with the singing of 'Sing to the Lord of Harvest" followed by a reading "Thanksgiving Guest'? by Vera Cassidy. Margaret McDougall gave the scripture reading which was taken from 1 Corinthians, Chapter 9; 24-27 and ended in a short prayer. With the singing of "The Day Thou Gavest, Lord is Ended" the worship service end- ed. - Signe Kangas read the minutes ' and took the roll call. Alice Browne gave the treasurer's report and Esther McGugan, Card Secretary reported she had sent out several sympathy, get well and birth cards. Thank you notes were read from several people to whom cards had been sent. Mrs. Duncan thanked the Group for the splendid job they did of catering for her Anniversary. Vol- unteers were asked for to help out at the Lions Club breakfast which the Friendship Group will be in charge of this week. Mrs. Rajala mentioned that now when the church hall is available for meetings, members should make an all out effort for -new members and each member is to bring one potential member to the November meeting. _It was announced that the paint for the kitchen cupboards in the new hall would be delivered on Thursday and that members who had volunteered for the job of painting would be able to start anytime after that. A letter was read containing a questionnaire about the amalga- mation of the different women's groups. of the -- church. was made that this be turned over to the Executive to deal with as they wish. The meeting adjourned A motion Michael S. Maloney COBALT Rev. Father Bicotte of North Cobalt officiated at the Requiem High Mass for Michael Saturninus Maloney of Cobalt, whose sudden unexpected death from a heart attack occur- red on Monday, October 19 on his way home from work. He was born in Douglas, Ontario, in 1902 and was the son of Thomas and with the Mizpah benediction. Lila Wipprecht then played for a sing song. Many requests for favourite songs were played, with a special request coming from the Manor residents for Mrs. Wipprecht to sing a solo. ' Lunch was served by the com- mitte in charge in the dinning room of-the Manor. Highlight® of this lunch was the lovely birthday cake, complete with fifteen candles, "Granny Aitchson" as the eldest person present did a marvelous job of blowing out the candles and cutting the cake. Gifts were passed -around to each of the residents and the Cobatt ladies, after a very pleasant evening, started out for their homes. Thursday, October 29, 1959 Hannah: Mary 'Maloney. He re- ceived his education in Douglas | and New Liskeard and about 1918 he moved to Cobalt where he has tesided ever since. "Big Mike" as he was called by his friends, had been a moulder at the Cobalt Foundry for approximately forty years, and was loved and respec- ted by all who knew him. The body rested at the Buffam Funeral Home until time for the funeral which was held at St. Patrick's Church on Thursday, October 22 at 10 a.m. Pall-bearers were D. McLeod, H. Brunette, G. Brown, G. Sauve, E. McAnaul, and 8. Othmer. Burial was at the Catho- lic Cemetery in Mileage 104.
