Safety or- ganizations constantly direct at- tention to our bad drivers -- the reckless, the selfish, the incom- petent, the discourteous, the care- less drivers. Perhaps we should A few months ago a lady named Mrs. Beeker, (I hope I have her name spelled right), phoned me regarding an item of news and while talking to me she said she would be eighty years old in March and that in the spring, she was going to fly back to Germany, where she was born, for a month. T have been trying to contact_her take time, more often, to compli- ment and thank the overwhelming (and increasing) majority of car operators who drive with skill, care, and due regard for the privileges and feelings of other road users -- in other words, for the great bulk of our driving neigh- bours who practice good citizen- ship on the highways." This was one of the remarks of Mr. J. P. Anderson, President of Dunlop Canada Limited, at the recent annual general meeting of the Ontario Safety League, of which he is the new President. And isn't is true? When some- but cannot find her name in the telephone book. So I do hope that if she sees this, she will get in touch with me for I am most anx- ious to hear how the trip to Ger- many is coming along. Mr. R. F. Richardson has been sticking his chest out so far, these last few days, that the buttons on his coat are almost ready to pop off. The reason? Those curling nephews of his, from away out west, have won another champion-| thing mean, or nasty, or cruel, or ship! So who wouldn't be proud? |unlawful, happens, every news- x k eh paper within range headlines it, the radio announcers blare it and roads . . . and the chances are|the television shows it up with: all you will be looking at a car that|its unpleasantness. DATED at Haileybury, Ontario, this 11th day of March 1960. ae Frank G,. Haskett, ; Clerk, + ; Town of Haileybury. ay ses 7, 10 Appoints Delegates Members of the Federation of Femmes Canadiennes Francais held their March meeting in» the Holy Cross Parish Hall and were welcomed by the president, Mrs. L. Simard. Mrs. D. Veale report- ed for the charitable committee and Mrs. C. Forget for the sick committee. Correspondence was read and other business matters dealt with. An invitation has been sent to Mrs. R. A. S. Boult of Ottawa, National president, asking her to attend the April meeting. The president, Mrs. L. Simard, and the secretary, Mrs. L. Char- ette, were appointed as delegates to attend the convention in Ottawa, April 25 to 28. The group decided to cater for a banquet on April 9th. Reports of the tea held at the home of Mrs. Vannier last month showed that it was a decided suc- cess. Mrs. Simard thanked Mrs. Vannier for the use of her home, and also the conveners who had charge of the tea, Mrs. A. Trudel, Mrs. L. Desjardins, Mrs. T. For- get and Mrs, A. Mathieu. Following the meeting the mem- bers attended the nine o'clock mass and then returned to the hall for lunch and a social hour. They were entertained by Mrs. J. A. Joyal, assisted by Mrs. Veale and Mrs. Charette, who presented an amusing action song. to do their share in community activities. So for goodness sake, if we have to talk about the bad be- haviour of a certain group of young folk, let's not group good and alike under a sneering appel- lation of "teenagers". I think young people are grand and there is nothing makes me happier than to hear a group of my grandson's chums -yell, "Hi, Mrs, Mac", when they meet me on the street. It would never do to end this column without a tribute to St. Patrick and all his forebearers and descendants and if they are all as nice as the ones I met last summer, I wouldn't mind living in Ireland, at all, at all. And then too, I could sail across the Irish Sea betimes and say hello to St. Andrew's descendants, who are grand people too! News from the Evelyn Shoppe The truth about hats is, like diamonds, they are not among the necessities of life, but ARE among the tonic pleasures. These are enchant- ing wisps of veiling with usually a huge rose perched on top or at the side. It was decided that hats are a must for the well-dressed wo- man so they have simply built the hats around the hair. Now, no one can say, "I can't get a hat to fit my new hair style.'
