Explorers Expedition Attended by Guests COBALT -- Parents and friends were invited to the United Church Hall on Friday, April 1, to share in an Expedition with the Ex- plorer Group Mrs. D. Garrett, leader of the Explorers of Timagami United Church, attended with a couple of her girls. Guests were invited ito inspect the different displays the Group had set up around tthe hall. At ithe Explorers table could be seen the Achievement Record, the requirements necessary for their different istars, Explorer's Motto, Theme Song and the agenda of an Expedition. Another display held a small replica of an African village, com- plete with thatched roof huts, tiny water jugs, other working utensils and showing the Chief's hut on a rise of ground over-look- ing the village. Here also was a marvelous scrapbook on Africa, the Study Book and the lovely mural the group painted. The meeting commenced with aigreeting by Sharon Conroy and an outline of the program to 'fol- low. "The Workers in Our African Community" was the title of the play whieh revolved around an old African Chief. (Shirley Tryon) who was bemoaning the fact that he thought his people did not work as hard these days as in the olden days of his youth, and had grown idle. As each of the villagers is called upon, they tell of the work they do and how each in his own way the Chief how wrong his thoughts were. Taking part in this were Jackie Parecher as Steel Carrier; Drum- mer, Linda David; Pestman, Shatr- on Conroy; Farmer, Darlene John- ston; Woman Trader, Sandra Mc- Gugan; Goldsmith, Carol Smith; Roadmaker, Bonnie Mallett; Schoolmaster, Suzanne Johnston; and Bus Driver, Diane Browne. A quiz on scrambled Books of the Bible was given to the guests to unsecramble. The Expedition opened with the theme song, "This is My .Fathers World', followed by the Call to Worship by Barbara McGugan. The Meditation was given 'by Dianne Browne, Carol Smith and Suzanne Johnston. After. the singing of "We Thank Thee O Our Father' a short prayer was offered by Sandra McGugan. The Explorers then sang ithe hymn "Children Who Walk in Jesus Way" and the Expediition ended with a prayer by Jackie Parcher and the repeating of tthe Motto by the whole group. Cook- ies, 'tea and cocoa served by the Explorers brought a pleasant meet- ing to a close. Amongst the notable anti-slavery leaders in the U.S.A. was Charle Sumner.
