Page 6 The Haileyburian Thursday, August 18, 1960 Across the Kitchen Table By MRS. MAC The sayings of children are price- Jess. The other night, a young eight year old listened to me telling his parents that I hoped to get the garden fence painted 'before the snow flies', and with rather a puzzled look, he asked, 'Where are the snowflies?"' News from the Lvelyn Shoppe Cottons are Fashion's favorites and when you see the diversified weaves, the new shades and the clever styles, you too, will fall un- der their spell. One three piece, checked cotton by Miss Sun Valley, boasts a belt- ed jacket, matching skirt and sleeveless pullover. Another, for those who like the "'suit look'"' in a lighter material, comes in a lovely tweedy cotton, the lowered waistline accented with a self band and belt. Still another that catches the eye is a cotton knit in brown with a splashed dot design in green. This is the type of dress that is perfect for now and will still be right in late fall or under a fur jacket, The new tunic dress is an- other popular highlight and we have it in a brown and black check with a three fold cummerbund, held with three self buttons. And have you seen our indispens- able co-ordinates? A beautiful tex- tured skirt, long sleeved pullover of fine Shetland wool and matching printed blouse with three quarter- length sleeves with the colors blended and matching perfectly. A new shipment of patterned corduroy slacks has just arrived. You will find them ideal for cool evenings. M. WRIGHT " 107 Sheriff Ave. at LIMITED Algonquin Ave. NORTH BAY, ONT. I did so enjoy the Pioneer's Pic- nic at the Liskeard Beach last week. It's the one time of year that one can be sure of meeting many of those "old timers" who do not bother coming out to other events. I was particularly pleased to meet Mrs. W. J. Keech, who has spent some time in the hospital, and little Mrs. Neil McFayden, who, although she was quite ill the week before, was there with her smile as sunny as ever. Many who now live somewhere else, always plan a holiday around "Picnic Time'"' so that they can meet the friends of other days. % % * * GRANDPARENTS They sit serenly by the sea, and smile As toddlers play .. back awhile To days when their own family "were small, The fun they had -- and how they loved it all. . it takes them Their children now have children of their own, And sometimes they feel very much alone; But yet their memories are sweet and dear, And there are other joys for them to share. Life is lived now at skewer, gentler pace, But there is much in it of joy and grace -- Time for so many things they' ve longed to do, Freedom to make their youthful dreams come true. For though life can be lovely in the Spring-- Autumn has its own deep de- lights to bring. Elsie S. Campbell The above poem seems a very appropriate one to follow after the Pioneer's Picnic. Tan McDiarmid OS 2-3024 Haileybury 12-24 Surprise Shower For Ann Campbell Miss Ann Campbell was feted at a surprise bridal shower given by Mrs. Eleanor Huff and Glenda Dettman at the West Road home of the latter's grandmother, Mrs. Ro- bert Campbell. Ann a September bride-to-be, was escorted to a gaily decorated chair laced beneath an archway festoon- ed with bells, bows and pink and white streamers. There she was pinned with a corsage of miniature roses. Little Christine Huard presented her with a beautiful bouquet of roses and baby breath, while 60 of her friends greeted her. Then a poke bonnet was placed on her head This was later decorated with the bows taken from the many lovely gifts presented to her in a decor- ated basket. Glenda Dettman and Eleanor Huff assisted Ann in opening the gifts. A very dainty lunch was la- ter. served. Walfer F. Helm Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 17, from the Keffer Funeral Home in Kitchener for Walter Frederick Helm, a former resident of Haileybury, following a*lengthy illness. Mr. Helm was 48 years of age. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Hardware Girls Trounce Haileybury Playing at New Liskeard Beach Park the New Liskeard Ladies trounced Haileybury Nurses 20 to 4 in a regular Central Group Lea- gue fixture. M. Breault was the winning pit- cher, while J. Larique was the loser. B. Flood and G. Porter hit homers for the Liskeard lassies, and J. Larique homered for the Nurses. It was a good game in spite of the score. Haileybury left ten la- dies on base and some sloppy. base 'running kept them from scoring more runs. The New Liskeard La- dies left six on base, but scored in every inning to win the game and keep the Temiskaming Hard- ware team in first place in the Central Group League. \To Dedicate Church At Thanksgiving Work on the new Pentacostal Church is progressing rapidly un- der the supervision of carpenter Floyd Harman of Englehart.
