PEDAL PRP A [See b THE PAPERS VANCOUVER -- A custom-tail- ored. muzzle has been ordered for Ferdinand, the wayward alligator of Stanley Park zoo. Curator Dr. Murray Newman of the zoo's aquarium department sent.out the order after Ferdinand capped a week of poor behavior by scaling a five-foot partition, in- vading a pool reserved for other reptiles and taking a bite out of a turtle. ' "That did it," Dr. Newman said. BL SAA99F232232223232232355 The muzzle is to be removed twice a week for meals of horse meat, smelts and chicken heads. It will be clapped on again as soon as Ferdinand has finished his repast. The partition was installed after other reptiles became apprehensive of the six-foot alligator's "'hissing and bellowing'? and began to re- sent his frequent visits. Dr. Newman said that the real trouble is that alligators have ra- zor-sharp teeth and Ferdinand has at least 60 of tthem. CAMPBELLFORD -- For Smok- ey, the German shepherd, life is no good without the Foxes. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fox, who live 'in this town 25 miles east of Peterborough, felt it wasn't fair to keey Smokey tied, so they trans- ferred him to the farm of Mrs. Fox's parents at Maple, 10 miles north of Toronto. Smokey registered his dismay by walking the 90 miles back home. it took him eleven days. : | FINDLAY ELECTRIC 2415:} You nice Cae FINDLAY ELECTRIC 052-3662 santa AILEY BURY1 Weak from exhaustion and lun- ger when he arrived, Smokey is home for good now. RIO DE JANEIRO -- The Brazil- ian census bureau asked for a truce in its losing battle with a fiery! nudist queen who won't let census takers onto her island nudist col- ony unless they strip. Backed up by 14 growling police dogs trained to attack people in clothes, she held off a boatload of census men when they tried to land on her private "island in the sun" in Rio Bay. "If you want to count us, take off your clothes,' she shouted. Now a census official has ap- pealed to Senorita Luz del Fuego (translation: Fireball) through the newspapers to accept a new solu- tion: The census bureau will appoint Fireball (who is a stripper in clothed society) the official census taker on her island with full pay, if she will dress up and report to census headquarters. TORONTO--Two-year-old David Gauci's troubles began when he learned how to open. doors. David, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Gauci of suburban Etobicoke, walks outside at night -- usually in the nude. His latest caper ended in humili- ation. He was caught wandering around about 2:30 a.m. without a stitch by a neighbor who cornered him, clothed him in girl's clothes and called police who returned him home. LONDON -- A young English schoolboy whose hero is a Cana- dian Indian wrestler named Billy Two Rivers' turned up at his fine public school with a Mohican hair- cut. ' And if there's one thing English public schools don't like it's Mo- hican haircuts. . But bright - eyed 'Christopher Crerie, 13, was determined 'to look like his barrel-chested hero, at least on the top of his head. He trained the hedge of hair on the crown of his head to stand up and kept the rest of his noggin shaven clean. Then he pranced off to school: The headmaster, Ronald Wilkins, took one look at the young brave}, and déclared Chris wouldn't be al- lowed to attend classes in social studies, physical education, wood- work,.-pottery -and. science. -- all Chris's favorite classes. The fact that he could still at- tend classes in French, music, maths and English didn't impress him a bit. In due course, his mother was summoned 'before the headmaster of the Ockendon Lennard School. She said later that Wilkins was obviously "not keen" on the Mo- hiean haircut. But another teacher says. this was a masterly understatement. "Headmaster Wilkins was really on the warpath."' The pow-wow ended with the Haileybury, Ont. P. O. The extension of the policy now provides for its be- coming a part of the dealer's writ- ten warranty to the customer. Us cE VANCOUVER--The school board said recently it has reprimanded two teachers involved in taping a 19-year-old student's mouth shut for one hour. - A spokesman said the teacher who put the tape on the mouth of Johnny Parker, a grade five student, and another teacher who left it on were warned they would be dismissed if it happened again. The spokesman said the boy's mouth was taped shut because he asked a question during a work period and the teacher wanted to teach the whole class a lesson. The boy remained in her class for 20 minutes, then went to® an- other class where the tape was left on for another 40 minutes by the second teacher. ST. JOHN'S, Nfld. -- There's a lobster swimming around in New- foundland waters which has been to.Boston and back and lived 14 days out of water to do it. A Spencer's Cave seafoods deal- er shipped a cargo of lobsters to the Massachusetts city but one lobster was overlooked. Two weeks after he should have landed in the cooking pot he turned up in an empty crate aboard the ship back in Newfoundland. Freeman Wareham tied a string to the lobster and put him _ over the side. The lobster, showing amazing stamina, wriggled. away. as if he had been in the water all the time. : . "Are you going to eat it?" Ware- ham was asked. : "No, it deserves to go free," he replied and tossed the lobster back 'into the sea minus the string. we believe represents -an- import- ant step forward in making our products better, safer and more trouble-free," the General Motors statement said.
