Page 6 The Haileyburian Thursday, October 27, 1960 Cobalt Lions Club Loses Fine COBALT -- Members of the Co- balt Lions Club learned with re- gret at their last regular dinner ~ meeting held in the Legion Lounge room that their president, Lloyd Humphreys would shortly be leav- ing Cobalt to accept a transfer to the Canadian Bank of Commerce at Sarnia, but the best wishes of all club members go along with him on his new appointment. The president gave a brief re- port on the Zone Rally held at Schumacher on the week-end of October 15 and 16 which he at- tended along with Dennis Larabie, Lawrence Buck and Bob Sopha. A letter was received from the Cobalt Junior Badminton Club, ex- pressing their sincere thanks and appreciation for the assistance the Lions Club had given them last season and asking for their sup- port again this season. It was pointed out that over 50 young boys and girls are active in this group and the Cobalt Lions Club decided to take care of the hall rental for them again this sea- son. Dr. Jamieson, eye specialist of Kirkland Lake, recommended an eye operation for a patient the club had sent to him for examina- tion and it was decided: to go along with his recommendation. Donations. were approved for CARE milk fund for underprivileg- ed children, and the fruit fund for the crippled children's camp at Northwood. The Club also approv- ed the purchase of a Remem- brance Day. wreath from: the: Can- adian Legion. Presentations; were made by President Humphreys to, Lawrence Buck, Past Deputy-District, Gover- nor and Ford Chapman, who. has ably assisted the club with his piano accompaniment at all their regular meetings, Jerry Presse advised that the Club bingo will be held at the Com- munity Hall, on Thursday, October 27, and requested the help of sev- eral members. But we would like to point out a few of the minor happenings. Pauline Deschenes, 12-A, left on Friday for Cochrane, to attend her brother's wedding, Saturday. Have fun Pauline! We extend our deepest sympathy to Anne Gagne from 12-B on the oceasion of the death of her broth- er Robert, aged niné, who was ac- cidently killed in La Sarre on Thursday, October 13. Robert was the last of nine children. Camille and Madeleine Simard of Noranda received the visit~ of their father this week. Lucky girls! Huguette Perreault will be re- ceiving visitors quite often, now that her friend, Doreen Umpire, is taking the Nurse's Aid Course in Haileybury. Fight! Fight! Fight! Was the motto for Fatima Senior and: Holy Cross Junior, volleyball: players who used our gymnasium: this week in.a meet with New Liskeard High School teams. Alice Cote refereed the Juniors. Both Juniors and Sen- iors lost their game to Liskeard High. The Captain, Claire Ayotte, as well as her squad, played a good game of co-operation, in, spite of their defeat.
