MAC -- «I wonder if I am the only. one who feels that the Christmas busi- ness season, and every other sea- son, for that matter, is started entirely too soon? Christmas mer- ehandise appears in the stores late in- October, then immediately af- ter Christmas, before one can draw a long breath, spring clothes are being shown, and while one is try- ing to find two free minutes dur- ing holiday time to enjoy the sum- mer, the radio and televisions are gil 'blaring about fall and winter styles and "do your Christmas shopping early". In fact if some thing -isn't done about it -pretty Soon, we're going to open our - doors. some Hallowe'en and find Santa booming "Shell Out', in- stead of "HO, HO, HO". And come -- to' think. of: it, isn't it a welcome thought? Because anything more sickening than that horrible "'ho, ho, ho-ing'"' that most radio an- nouncers seem to think is typical of Santa would be hard to ima- gine. Beer eh, et : : In many places in the Bible we see the words "joy, gladness, and rejoice'; "Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy"; '"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord', "Sing with gladness'; 'Leap for News from the Svelyn Shoppe 'Many people, we know, have their Christmas shopping done early, but. remember, Evelyn- has thought of those -last-minute gifts and you may be sure you will find just what you want. "We know, too, that. you are all prepared for the Christmas round _of festivities, BUT, the New Years dance and parties follow closely after, and to make you look your irresistable best in order- that you may enchant that man in your life, Evelyn has party dresses by Renee and Vogue Original that w: enchant you as well. : -And on the eve.of the holiday i season, Evelyn.and her staff thank ys pee sincerely, for your! busi- . 'during the past year, and wish for you and yours, a Christ- mas that will give you happy mem- aries, followed by a New Year filled with health and prosperity. joy'; "Come ye before Him and rejoice'; "Rejoice iand be exceed- ing glad". I could go on and on, but there are so many people who seem to think that anything con- nected with the church or the Lord must be approached with solem- nity, long faces and gloomy looks. Frankly, I can't see it that way and I think that our faith should enable us to see and hear the joy and gladness that iis all around us, if we have a 'seeing eye and a hearing. ear" -plus an -under- standing heart. True, the world has much 'sorrow, it's future seems so unsettled and at times we won- der why certain things are allow- ed to. happen, but the -fact still remains 'that Christ was born in Bethlehem and that His birth was "good -tidings of great joy'. We cannot move mountains nor re- move the burdens of all the peoples of the world, but we can brighten the pant of it that we live in, by having faith, being cheerful and doing what we can for those around us. * + & "To most of us, Christmas is a time. when we put aside, at least temporarily, the trials and tribu- lations of everyday life, a time when we share with our families and friends, new joys, old memor- ies, and with the courage and res- olution that is born of faith, re- member the true meaning of Christmas. And if we keep the teachings of Christ uppermost in our minds, we need have no mis- givings about the years to come. So this year, let's all try to make the Christmas season one that will follow us on into the new year, leaving the little frustnations, the hurts and sorrows, behind. Some- times it's not. very easy to do, but ene should not let these thing: dominate one's life. - And now to ail my readers and the friends who have been so ex- tremely kind to me during a try- ing time, I send the wish that this Christmas may be one to be long remembered, one in which the true conception of Christmas will take precedence over all else and that you may have in your hearts "'the good tidings of great joy".
