Albert Presse 'Albert Presse a well-known mine captain of the Cobalt area died at his. home, 314 Tamarack St., Tim- mins, on Tuesday, December 27, after an illness of three years. He was born at Ishpeming, Michigan, oh September 3, 1881, and a few years later the family moved to Canada and took up residence at Verner. It was here that he met the former Alphonsine Poisson and in 1904 they were married and moved to Cobalt the same year. He was in charge of sinking op- efations for the Myer Shaft and miine captain for 38 years for the Nipissing Company. He was very active in municipal affairs until his retirement in 1945, having been on the Town Council for seven years, Mayor of Cobalt in 1936-37 and served on the High School Board and the Separate School Board for many years. He was a member of the Catholic Chureh and of the Knights of Co- lumbus. In 1948 he moved to Tim- mins where he resided until his death. Mr, Presse leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, six sons, Lionel, Conrad and Leo, all of Montreal, Gerard of Cobalt, Fred of North Cobalt and Denis of Toronto; two daughters, Gabrielle (Mrs. H. Mor- in} of 'Flint, Michigan), and Alice (Mrs.' Percy Smitheram of Tim- mins). The body was brought to Cobalt and rested at the Buffam Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Friday, De- cember 30, when Requiem High Mass was celebrated at Ste.Ther- ese, Church by Reverend Father 0, Lemay assisted by Father Au- Her of Quebec, and Father M. Jef- MS fréy of Cobalt: Burial was in the 'fainily plot at'the Catholic Ceme- tery, Mileage 104. all-bearers were three grand- 'Roland and John Presse, Smitheram, two sons Denis Figure Skating At Armories Figure skating started in Hail- eybury on Tuesday, January 3, with a registration of 72; and Mrs. Chris Blair of North Bay again on the job as instructress. Members of the executive are very anxious for the support of all parents whose children are skating and ask that they attend a meeting to be held Thursday, Jan- uary 5, in the Hotel Haileybury, in order to make plans for the season. The following schedule of skat- ing times and fees for the differ- ent age groups has been drawn up. Beginners (pre-school to six years) fee, $4:50; skating, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Sat- urday, 3:15 to 4:00 p.m. Juniors (six to eleven years) fee, $7.00; skating, Tuesdays, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.; Saturdays, 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Intermediates (eleven years and up) fee, $9.00; skating Tuesdays, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.; Thursdays 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.; 'Saturdays, 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. The low Family Fee of $15.00 will enable family participation in this wonderful recreational entertain- ment, and Fred Presse and Ernest Presse. : Relatives from out-of-town at- tending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Percy Smitheram, Vern and Judy of Timmins, Lionel and Leo Presse of Montreal, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Presse, Roland and John of Montreal, Mrs. H..
