Father -Nix- on acted as chairman and opened the meeting with prayers followed by the reading of the rules govern- ing Vestry meetings from the Dio- cesan Canons. Mr. Edwin Young was elected Vestry Clerk. 'Father Nixon gave a brief re- _ port on the spiritual life of the parish, and commended his parish- oners for being faithful to their spiritual duties and in their good works. The financial report of the parish was presented by Miss Alyce Ross, and showed that sound progress has been made during the past year in meeting obligations outside and within the parish. It was em- phasized by Father Nixon that if 'each parishoner would increase their weekly' offering slightly, it would assist with the general up- keep of the parish property. Presentation of reports were re- ceived from the various groups in the parish. The Women's Auxiliary by Mrs. J. Gilkes; the Church School by Mr. Cyril Grozelle; the Choir by Jim Nitholls; the Bible Reading Fellowship by Mrs. F. Cooper; the Servers' Guild by Mr. Ron Taylor; the Junior Auxiliary by Mrs. Stan Horncastle and the Girl's Auxiliary by Mrs. J. Gilkes. ' Father Nixon announced the ap- pointment of Mr. George Stewart as Rector's Warden for the next two years. Mr. William Cavanagh was elected by the Vestry as People's Warden for a two year period. ° The following Parishoners were elected to the Vestry Board for the year 1961: Mrs. G. L. Cassidy, Mrs, J.C. A. Crawford, Mr. E. E. Campbell, Mr. J. Gilkes, Mr. C. Grozelle, Mr, J. Lecky, Mr. J. Mr. T. M. Childerhose, vice- president of Mine Equipment Company, Limited, will be the guest speaker when members of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Cobalt Branch, hold their January meeting in the Canadian Legion Hall, Haileybury, Thursday, January 19 at 8 p.m. _ Mr. Childerhose will take as his subject, "The Alimak Raise - Driving Platform. Branch chairman J. E. Arm- strong will have charge of the meeting. ' Leishman, Mrs. J. Mason and Mr. E. Young. The two Wardens are automatically members of the Board. Mr. John Leishman was elect- ed secretary-treasurer of the par- ish, and Mr. Robert Fleming was elected Delegate and Mr. Cyril Grozelle Substitute Delegate to Diocesan Synod to be held June 6th, 7th and 8th at St. Luke's Ca- thedral, Sault Ste. Following general business Fa- ther Nixon closed the meeting with the Church's Blessing. Cobalt Entries Star At Noranda Tourney Noranda was the setting for a week-end badminton tournament with clubs from" Noranda, Tim- mins, Kirkland Lake, Larder Lake and Cobalt entered. Cobalt figured in all the finals, having a very strong turnout for the northern rally. my» 'hes Events played were: Ladies' Doubles: Noranda team Kay Blatchford and Freda Doug- las defeating Cobalt's team Bev Hassett and Bev. Richards b scores of 15-5 and 15-13. ; Men's Doubles match found all Noranda players competing with the match going to"E. Belanger '}and Fink Orunmond defeating Bill Douglas and C. Arsenault by scores of 15-13 and 15-14. Mixed Doubles play went to L. Lafoy and partner Bev Hassett of Cobalt, defeating Noranda . team Bill Douglas and his partner by scores of 15-11 and 15-4. ; Consolation matches went to La- dies' Doubles Bee Birtch and Evette Belanger, defeating -Nor- anda team Mrs. Simard and. Miss Gratton by scores of 15-4, 14-15, and 15-4. : Mixed Doubles match was all Cobalt players in the final event Dennis Miller and partmer Cecile Lanthier defeating Peter Fleming and Yvette Belanger. Haileybury Rink Enters School Curling Tourney Haileybury High School curlers were worthy ~ representatives of their school and lost out to Nor- anda High School in the semi-finals last week-end at the Kirkland Lake Curling .Club in a very close game. The Haileybury High Schook team was skipped by Rodney Dor- an, with John Horncastle vice- skip, Paul Hough second and Bob Grozelle lead and the team was coached by Fred Austin. There were eight teams entered and they were divided into two groups. In group A weré Hailey- bury, Noranda, Virginiatown and McIntyre. In group B were Kirk- land Lake, Iroquois Falls, New Liskeard and Kapuskasing. The Haileybury rink won their first game from McIntyre and then met Virginiatown. After being two up coming home the Haileybury rink lost their second game which they played against Virginiatown. Their third game was with Nor- anda which they won easily 8-3, making a three-way tie in Group A between Noranda, Haileybury and Virginiatown. Noranda won the bye and Haileybury played Virginiatown and won that game. In Haileybury's second time to meet Noranda an extra end was required after the teams were tied 10-10 after ten ends were played. With Noranda having the last rock in the extra end they defeated}: Haileybury 11-10. Noranda then played Kirkland Lake who were the winners of|} Group B and won 12-3 to win the} Frank McDowell Trophy and the) right to represent the Temiskam-} ing and Northern Ontario Curling Association Schoolboys at Kapus-.| kasing. .The Canadian Schoolboys Curling Championship this year will be played in Prinee George, | British Columbia. The Noranda High School team | was skipped by B. McKelvey, with, P. Doyle vice-skip, P. Graham sec- ||; ond and D. Whetter lead. The Kirkland Lake entry was Art Bar- rett skip; James Ramsey second and David Lapinski, a former Haileyburian as. lead. C. E. Peacock officia- ting. Those installed: were Mrs. C. E. Peacock, president; Mrs. W. C. Arnold and Mrs, F. A. Orr, vice- presidents; Mrs. D. M. Scanlon, secretary; Mrs. G. Peckover, treasurer; Miss Muriel Rice, devo- tional secretary; Mrs. A. Barry, manse secretary;. Mrs. J..B. Rob- inson, kitehen secretary. Conveners for the various com- mittees are Miss. Jean. McGill, Christian Education; Mrs. Lloyd Childs, Mars. T. Cragg, and Mrs. 1A. Green, Relief and Supply; Miss Cecelia Somerville, Literature; and Mrs. G. Maddison, Social. ' Mrs. W. C. Arnold and Mrs. F. A. Orr were in charge of the mis- sionary part of the program. It was announced that the an- nual church meeting would be held on January 26th, and would be un- der the convenership of Mrs. H. Piekard. A Valentine Tea is plan- ned for February 14 with Mrs. C. Lowery in charge. A vote of thanks was moved by Miss Jean. McGill to the retiring executive for their work during the past year. Patronal Festival At St. Paul's Wednesday, January 25th the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, is. observed as the Patronal Festi- val of St. Paul's Parish. There will be two celebrations of the Holy Eucharist in thanksgiving for the life and witness of the Anglican Communion in the community. The Eucharists will be offered at 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. la second prize Installs 1961 Officers Saxophonist at St. Mary's Academy Jeunesses Musicales invite their Lmembers to attend their third con- eert of the season on January 23, at St. Mary's Academy. You will be entertained by an outstanding performer, Pierre Bourque, saxophonist. Born in} Plessisville, he studied music at the Province of Quebec Conserva-' tory in Quebee City and it was 'then that be met 'Marcel Mule", ithe great French saxophone vir- tuoso. The latter was on tour for 'J. M. C. with his "Quatuor Mule", a saxophone quartet. This meet- ing inspired Pierre Borque 'to at- itend the J.M.C. Summer Music , Camp where a member of the quartet, Georges Gourdet, was iteaching. He then made his way to' Paris and was admitted to the 'Conservatoire'. He recently won in his class and' was granted a one-month leave of" absence in order to undertake this' tour for J.M.C.
