Though his smile has gone for- ever And his hand we cannot touch, Still we have our memories Of the one we loved so much His memory is our keepsake, With which we'll never part. God has him .in His keeping, We have him in our hearts. --Sadly missed by wife Thelda and children Darlene, Norman, Linda, Freddie, Wendy and Kim. 3p GROWTH OF A TOY Rocking horses seem to~ have made their appearance in Eu- rope in the 18th century, but they are crude compared with the realistic animals of today. At first they were simply cut in solid wood with the legs merely marked in outline. : Mayor Purdy (Continued From Page One) at the time of this release. This in itself is an indication that some 'approve of the council's action. Those members who object to council's attempts to save money are doing well to resign. "It might be well to point out that the Community Centre Board at one time offered the Cobalt town clerk $100 to look after bookings at the community cen- tre. The clerk returned the cheque and offered to do the work without pay. The next month he was re- lieved of his job and another per- son was hired to do this work. "We are not critical of the man- ner in which the Board has oper- ated in the past; they have done a good service to the community. However, in the course of time, ideas crop up that benefit the fi- nances of the town, in this case Community Centre Board. In con- clusion we would like to state that if anyone has the answer to this, or any other problems, we would be pleased to have it. It seems, though, that in Cobalt, regardless of what council is elected, what- ever they do is wrong. We have been elected for the 1961 period and we are going to run town business without being influenced by every derogatory article that is published. "To the fair minded -people of Cobalt, we are attempting to: im- prove our town, we are attempt- ing to give you better service at less cost. This is a tall order and perhaps we will make mistakes. We only ask that you carefully ag a Fe pe aay look at both sides of the silver dollar, and attend your council meetings and ask questions. "Finally, we hope that this re. lease will answer your questions satisfactorily. If it doesn't, feel free to seek clarification at the next regular meeting of the Cobalt Town Council on Apirl 11." The four members of the board still sitting, referred to in Mayor Purdy's statement, include two town councillors, W. J. Tresidder and Duncan Sopha. The two of the five non-council members who have not resigned are Bob Lati- more and Jack Church. Mayor Purdy said council has also passed the following resolu- tion: "That we have the Com- munity Centre and Recreation ~ Commission stand as they are, with the exception that the town office will look after the secre- tarial work of the Community Centre Board, renting the hall, etc." = Tea and Bake Sale At Holy Cross School Parents and pupils will play an important part in the Tea and Bake Sale arranged by the PTA of Holy Cross School for this coming Saturday. During the tea-.and sale, a short musical program will be given by the Kindergarten pupils. There will also be draws for baskets of groceries.
