Sutherland Funeral services were held from the Symington Funeral Chapel in Kirkland Lake for George Albert Sutherland, well-known in Hailey- bury, whose death occurred on Saturday, April 8, following an ill- ness of several years. Mr. years of age, was a printer, an oc- cupation which he started with the Daily Nugget in North Bay, later coming to Haielybury to°assist his brother, Duncan Sutherland, in the publishing of the Haileyburian. About 20 years ago, he moved to Kirkland Lake, where he organ- ized and operated the Sutherland Printing Company. 'He is survived by his wife, form- erly Miss Mildred Mayhew of Haileybury, and two daughters, Shirley and Norma; five brothers, James of Schumacher, Kenneth and Earl of Nanaimo, B.C.; Wil- liam of North Bay, and Douglas of ---Englehart; and two sisters, Mrs. Emerson Carmichael of Sud- bury and Mrs. Percy Grozelle of Haileybury. Speaking on the topic, "I am a Canadian, because -- ", he won out over three other contestants in his class and will now advance into the area finals being held in Kirkland Lake next month. High School in Haileybury. William Morrissey The. death occurred at. Miseri- cordia Hospital, Haileybury, on Wednesday, April 12th, of William Lawrence Morrissey, in his 82nd year. a Mr. Morrissey was 2 widely- known resident of Latchford where he had conducted a general: store since 1910. He had been in fail- ing health for some years and had been a patient in the hospital since January. Mr. Morrissey was born Feb. 25, 1880, at Perce, in the Gaspe district of Quebec, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Morrissey. His moth- er was the former Mary Hennes- sey. He worked in the lumbering industry in his early years, main- ly in the Parry Sound district, where he lived for some years be- fore coming to Latchford. He was married to Mary Switzer in 1916. He is survived by his widow and one son Russell of Sturgeon Falls, also by one 'sister, Mary, who is a nun in a religious order at Que- bec City; two brothers, Dan of Calgary and Henry of Perce; and a half-brother, Edmund of Mont- real. None of the surviving broth- ers and sister were able to attend the funeral because of advanced age and distance involved. Buffam Funeral Home at Cobalt on Friday, April 14th, with the Rev.
