7 Mine Report A preliminary report on the boundary between the Temisk- aming and Grenville subprov- inces in the Townships of Nee- lon, Dryden, Dill and Broder, District of Sudbury, has been completed and is now ready for distribution by the Ontario De- partment of Mines. The report (P.R. 1961-5) which was written by Profes- sor T. €. Phemister of Aber- deen University is priced at $1, and copies are available upon application to the Department of Mines. Teachers Selected For Cobalt PS Chairman D. F. Horan presided at the regular meeting of the Pub- lie School. Board, T.S:A. of Cobalt and Coleman, held on Monday, _May 8. Present were. trustees. I. Tresidder, W. Fleming, L. P. Oth- mer, H. A. Todd, Principal D.C. McGugan and Mrs. A. Cameron, Secretary-Treasurer. The school attendance officer, Mrs. L. Dixon, reported five ab- sentee calls were made during April. Mr. McGugan gave the enroll- ment as 353 with average daily at- tendance of 325. Accounts totalling $5,502:43 were approved for pay- ment. Due to iliness, Mrs. Della Heth- erington submitted her resignation as a teacher at this school which was received with regret. The teaching staff for the new _term will be D. C.' McGugan, Principal, K. B. Gillan, Vice- Principal, P. S. Beattie, Mrs. M. Cotton, Mrs. W. Hermiston, Mrs., S. Kangas, Mrs. D. MacPherson, Mr. R. F. Noble, Miss L. Oidham and Mrs. B. Svekers. A new trophy will be presented this year for Grade eight. It is the A.D. Hellens Trophy for Profi- cieney in Mathematics. RCMP Warns About Counterfeit Merchants in the Tri-Town area are warned by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to be on the look- out for counterfeit bills. According to the RCMP, bogus bills and ut- tering is once more a serious threat in Eastern Canada and Ontario. Most of the bills being passed are in $10 denominations, but those in $50 and $100 amounts have been circulated. A list of all known bills is printed below. Do not return the note to the customer. ' Attempt to delay the person pass- ing the note. Should the passer leave before the arrival of police, attempt to have him followed until you en- counter the nearest policeman. Annual Meeting Miss Kathleen Shevkenek, Home Economist for Temiskaming and Cochrane, reported on the pro- gress of the Temiskaming 4-H Clubs at the annual meeting of the South Temiskaming District Wo- men's Institute annual meeting in New Liskeard on Tuesday, May 23. Ninety-three per cent of the girls completed their work during the 1960-61 season, 65 of the 73 girls who started in "The Milky Way" unit, finishing, and 38 of the 40 who signed up for the '"'Cotton Ac- cessories for the Bedroom". Clubs taking part were from Couttsviile, Dack, Dymond, Earlton, Harris, Heaslip, Hyberta, New Liskeard (two clubs) Rockley, Savard and Thornloe. Records of Achievement and Homemaking Club spoons were awarded to each girl completing a project, with 47 Certificates of Achievement being awarded to the girls who completed their Units. County Honour Certificates and pins were awarded to seven girls who completed six - Units. They were Dorothy Dudgeon, Mary Drury, Alice Hay, Evelyn' Davis, Doris: Dudgeon, Lorna Pacey and 'Ann Borgford. The' pins were pur- chased by the sponsoring Women's Institute group. Provincial Honor Certificates and : pins were presented to Sharon Jibb, Victoria Dudgeon and Joan Smith for the completion of twelve units. Norma Schubert and Judy Alex- ander represented Temiskaming District at the Provincial Girl's Conference' in Guelph; Guest Speaker Mr. J. D. Cumming, well-known Mining Engineer and author, will be the guest speaker at the annual dinner and dance sponsored by the Cobalt Branch of the Canadian: In- stitute of Mining and Metallurgy, in the Haileybury Curling Ciub Lounge on Friday evening, May 26, starting at six p.m. ' Mr. H. G. Pickard. is the new chairman of this: branch. Connie | Cook, Joyce Edwards, Shirley Jibb | and Eleen Smith attended. the]. August, when Connie presented her Club exhibit, "Finishes for Cot- ton Slips". There were twenty- four ladies, active leaders and as- sistant leaders, who were enter- tained at a luncheon through. the courtesy of the Department of Ag- riculture at the time of each Training School Five of these leaders were guests of the Department at the Royal Winter Fair in November, Mrs. D. Mackey, Mrs. J. Schubert, Mrs. G. Dudgeon, Mrs. H. Brownlee and Mrs. Rodgers. Ten Clubs are now active in the project, "The Club Girl Stands on Guard", and the project that starts in the fali will be "Separ- ates for Summer". A new Club was organized in North Cobalt, with the North Sunshine Women's Institute sponsoring it. The girls will be attending their Achievement Day in the -Com- munity Hall in New Liskeard on Saturday, June 3, when all par- ents and Institute members should attend to see just what these girls and their leaders have accomptlish- ed during the past year. Junior Program of the C.N.B. in] Graduation Gift At the Mining School grad- uation dinner last week, Mr. Keith Benner, Field Engineer for Mid North Engineering Company, and a graduate of the Haileybury School of Mines, on. behalf of mining friends of the school, present- ed Principal O. E. Walli with a matched set of Spalding Golf Clubs, complete with bag and Caddy-Cart, in: appreciation of » the many years of service he ' has given in the cause of / mining education, Mr. Walli-has served as prin- { cipal' of the Sehool for sixteen years and has won. the respect and esteem, not only of his students throughout the years, but of the entire north, where be is well-known in mining circles.
