The ground includes the former Keeley and Frintier mines which together produced over 18 million ounces of silver up to their closure in the early thirties Unwatering of the extensive workings is being started. Crews have been at work for the past several weeks rehabilitating the surface plant, including buildings. A total of $275,000 has been raised for the program through a public offering of 1,100,000 shares at 25c. Glen Lake Silver Mines, a new incorporation formed to take over the former Bailey property, locat- ed about 1% miles southeast of Co- balt, will also go underground. Un- watering of the old workings is al- ready underway and will be follow- ed by an underground drill test. The Haileyburian The Bailey property produced over | 300,000 ozs. of silver, according to old records. Glen Lake has been provided with an initial $25,000 through the underwriting of 250,000 shares at 10c. Professor Silver Mines is continu- ing an underground exploration and development program. at its pro- perty about four miles southeast of Cobalt. An adit has been driven for a length of 900 ft. and one vein opened up for a length of 125 ft. Grade averages 50 ozs. silver| across 0.5 ft. Two other veins were encountered in the adit at around the 900-ft. mark but no lateral work has been done on these yet: Drilling has also disclosed other mineralized veinlets in favorable geology. The company is also considering unwatering an old shaft in the northeast section of the property. Erection of a new headframe and installation of a small mining plant may be undertaken to racilitate underground examination in this area. Initially Professor received $50,000 from the underwriting of 250,000 shares at 20c per share. Pittsonto Plans Pittsonto Mines, which holds 18 claims about 2% miles northeast of Cobalt, including the former Har- rison-Hibbert property, is planning to start unwatering operations and carry out underground exploration. Rehabilitation of the mining: plant and surface buildings has already been completed. The company was provided with $45,000 through the underwriting of 300,000 shares at 15c late last year. Silverside Mines, which adjoins the Pittsonto, is also planning sur- face exploration pending comple- tion of financing arrangements. The work will include surface geo- logical mapping, geophysical sur- veys, and drilling. There are no underground workings on the Sil- verside but the property is consid- ered a good geological bet. Silvermaque Mines (formerly i Norsyncomaque Mines) will carry |) out an extensive program on its Silver Contact property at Gilles Limit about six miles southeast of Cobalt. A crew is now at the pro- perty doing clean-up work in pre- paration for unwatering of the workings which extend to a depth of 425 ft. Finances totalling $130,000 have been arranged: Considerable exploration has been done in the Gillies Limit area over the past year. This program, involving gelogical mapping, geo- physical surveys, and drilling is being continued under the finan- cial sponsorship of Rayrock Mines. The work is undér: the direction of R. I. Benner, consulting geolo- gist. One of the main projects being financed by Rayrock is on Botha 'Lake Mining Corp. property. Drill- ing was carried out this past win- ter with good values encountered in séveral holes. Drilling is being continued to' investigate anomalies obtained in previeus ground geo- physical surveys. Rayrock has pro- vided over $60,000 for this program. - United Cobalt Mines is conduct- - ing a drill program on its Genessee property, a short distance east of Cobalt. A geophysical survey, com- pleted some time ago, indicated a number of interesting anomalies which are the main targets for the drilling. Mineralization has been ~ encountered but the significance of this has yet to be assessed. The property was worked in former years when a shaft was sunk to a depth of around 300 ft. : Thursday, August 10, 196ltopher mine. A drive was extended Wilgar Lake Geological mapping and drilling are planned on Pickering Metal Mires optioned property at Wilgar Lake about 14% miles northwest of Cobalt. Calcite veins; which are host to the rich silver deposits in the area, are known to occur on the property. Agnico Mines, the largest sil- ver producer at Cobalt, is carrying out exploration and development on other properties outside of its two main mines, the Christopher and the O'Brien. Unwatering operations are under way on the Violet pro- perty which adjoins the O'Brien. .Following completion of this work, underground exploration will be undertaken. In addition to unwater- ing the company has installed elec- tric power and put the hoisting set- up back into operation. Agnico is also carrying out a heavy program on the Ibsen Pond claims south and west of its Chris- 800 ft. into the Ibsen from the ad- joining Christopher and drilling is being carried out. Initial results have indicated an ecouraging look- ing geological picture, an official states. ; Cobalters are expecting to see more than $1,000,000 spent on ex- ploration in the area this year. The authorative Northern Miner re- cently ran a survey of exploration and development in the camp which promises a boom year in the area. The Miner states that increas- ing world demand for silver, which is running well ahead of produc- tion, is promising an early increase in the price of silver, and sparking the exploration rush. Bring Result: Classified Ads Cobalt Council -- (Continued from Page One) informal discussions with both Mr. Quinlan and the company, and found that there was no clash be- tween the two. The council agreed to do anything possible to further the projects. Other business included the ap- pointment of Rev. M. J. Scully to the Recreation Commission: In a letter, the Coleman Coun- cil offered its apologies for its re- cent resignation from the Recrea- ation Commission, and asked to- be reinstated. Mayor Purdy. said that there should be a meeting between the two councils, and that Coleman should be paying. at least one-third of the cost of operating the Cobalt arena. Last year, he said, Cole- man's. contribution was only $62, but the 700 persons in Coleman |. use all the facilities which the 2.100 people in Cobalt are paying for. A by-law was passed authorizing the prosecution of persons who fail to keep lots tidy. The council accepted a tender of $1,100 from . the Canadian Steeplejack Company for cleaning and painting the inside .of the town's water standpipe. Councillor R.
