% ee re ' Board reviewed ~ September meeting held last Mon- The Bucke Township School, it's program of buying education at the regular day evening. This year, residents of Fleury- ville, the West Road and the south portion of Highway 11 are send- ing their children to the Hailey- bury Public School. Residents of Highway' 11 north from Dixon's €reek and Radley's Hill are send- ing their children to New Lis- keard. All problems of transportation how seem to be operating smooth- ly. Board Chairman Tom Willis said Mrs. Nora Perry deserved a lot of credit for her capable hand- ling of this formidable problem. The School Board arranges trans- portation for all High School as well as Public School children in the township. An agreement has been signed between the Haileybury Board of Education and the Bucke Township School Board and payment for the education of the children attend- ing the Haileybury School has been made for the months of September and October. The agreement from the New Liskeard Board of Edu- eation is still pending and it is expected that this will be in hand shortly. Rummage Sale At Parish Hall Members of St: Paul's Anglican. W.A. held their first fall meeting in. the Parish Hall on Tuesday, September 12, with the president, Mrs. G. L. Cassidy opening the meeting with appropriate W.A. prayers, after which she welcomed new members. Business' reports were given. The annual Fall Rummage Sale under the convenership of Mrs. Humphry, will be held Friday, Oc- tober 6th, in the Parish Hall. Mrs. E. Campbell and Mrs. J. Shouldice offered to look after collecting the rummage. ; It was decided to hold a Cor- porate Communion on Thursday, September 28th at 10:00 o'clock. The date of Saturday, November 4, for the annual Christmas Bazaar was approved by the W.A. Mem- bers. The conveners will be ap- pointed at the October meeting. Mrs. W. MacFarlane, secretary of the Little Helpers Group, reported that they would hold their annual party on Wednesday, September 20, in the Parish Hall. The tea table setting under the auspices of St. John's Anglican Church in New Liskeard, was brought up for discussion and it was unanimously decided that the W.A. enter this competition. Mrs. E. Campbell was appointed con- vener to arrange the table setting for St. Paul's. A sewing meeting will be held Tuesday in the Parish Hall to pre- pare articles for the Christmas Bazaar. At the completion of the business discussions, the meeting was clos- ed with prayer. 'Transportation Licked -- _ By Bucke School Board The Board also decided that it would pay for the cost of educat- ing Kindergarten children, provid- ed that parents could' make ar- rangements with the Haileybury or New Liskeard school to have their children admitted and also provid- ed that parents would make their own arrangements for transporta- tion. The Kindergarten problem is not an easy one. There has been no definite commitment from either Haileybury or New Liskeard on the availability of Kindergarten but. in some cases. it may be possible for parents to arrange. are In future it is possible that more complete facilities may be provid- ed by either or both schools con- cerned. Transportation is difficult for the Board to arrange econom- ically as these small children at- tend either a morning or afternoon class only. : There is some confusion. about insurance for the children. Bucke, Township School Board pays. for. the cost of insurance for all Pub-, lic School children, covering med- ical expenses incurred through ac- cident or injury sustained' while the pupil is en route to or from any regular class or supervised activity. A circular explaining the coverage provided will soon be delivered to all-children of Bucke Township who are attending either New Liskeard or Haileybury Schools. Meanwhile the North Cobalt School has an initial enrolhment' only four less than at the end of June last year. As at that time the enrollment included Fleuryville and the pupils of senior grades from the Moore's Cove area, it is evident that there has been a sub- stantial increase in School popula- tion. With the expected continued ef- ficiency of the North Cobalt school which the Board feels has an ex- cellent staff, and with the pupils from Fleuryville, and the area from Haileybury to New Liskeard attending these two schools re- spectively, in the opinion of the Board the children of Bucke Town- ship will receive far better educa- tion than has éver been available Closing Dance At Golf Club On Saturday, September 23, the Haileybury Golf Club will hold the closing dinner and dance of the season. Following the dinner, which will be held at 6:30, the presentation of prizes won in both the ladies' and men's sections during the sea- son will take place. The members of the men's ex- ecutive for the year have been A. Hawkins, president; G. Black, vice-président; G. Stewart, secre- tary; W. Grozelle, club captain; J. Michiel, J. B. Knox, -J. Sargent, Russ Murphy, D. McLennan and W. Gow, directors. Night Classes At High School If a 'sufficient amount of inter- est is shown, night. classes for adults. will be conducted in the Haileybury High School during the fal and: winter months. G. L. Cas- sidy, principal of the High Sehool, has announced that if the number of applications. warrant it, classes can be organized to commence on October 11th. The classes considered at pre- 'sent include Conversational French |- to begin on October 11, on Wed- nesday evenings, with Mrs. F. L. Charbonneau instructing; Drawing and Painting, to begin in early October, on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings, depending on the wishes of the majority of the elass, with G. L. Cassidy as in- structor; English Literature (Gr. XIII Course of Study) Wednesday evenings, beginning on November 15, with G. L. Cassidy as instruc- tor. Classes will also be organized in Grade XIII History or Math- ematics if sufficient applications are' received: 'These would hkely be held on Wednesday evenings. Classes will run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the new High School building, and a small deposit fee will be charged on registration which will be refunded if a réason- ably good attendance is kept up. Preliminary registration may be made either by letter or telephone to G. L. Cassidy, Principal; and if possible' should be received by to them before. October 2nd. Organ Destroyed in Cobalt Church Fire The new electric organ in Cobalt United Church was destroyed. by fire last Thursday night. Despite the intense heat generated by the blaze, the main structure of the church did not catch fire. Nothing was left of the organ but a small heap of twisted metal ly- ing in an ash filled hole in the floor. The fire burned a hole in the ceil- ing, but was apparently stopped by insulation. The intense heat blackened and twisted floor tiles 25 feet away, and covered most of the pews with a layer of smoke and grime. The organ was used for choir' practice Thursday evening, but the practice was cut short when the hydro-electric power failed during the heavy rainstorm. In the morning, Mrs. Wipprecht, wife of the minister, opened the church to be greeted with a cloud of smoke. The heat cracked several win- dows, none of them fell in. Mr. Wipprecht said that he believed the fire must have smothered it- self as no doors or windows were Helmut open. Installed last January, the organ cost $2,000. Total damage has been estimated at between $5,000 and $6,000. i: Top car BE 5 we in the Mercury line for 1962 is the Monterey. Custom: seen heré.in.the four door hardtop model.
