We _wewree Page 6 The Haileyburian Thursday, November 16, 1961 A Pearl Necklace Something The gifts of pearls carries a spe- cial connotation in that pearls "grow more beautiful in contact with the wearer. Because of its gentle colour and smooth shape, the pearl is also the symbol of mo- desty and purity, says jewellery designer Marianne Ostier, in her ethyl book "Jewels and the Wo- man.' No wonder women love the Saori and prize it, as a gift, for the compliment it carries as well as for its beauty! It should be the right of every women to owli at least one strand of beautiful, care- fully selected and lovingly matched cultured pearls. Her first pearl necklace--unless the recipient has expressed a def- to Cherish inite preference to the contrary -- should probably be a single strand just long enough to fill in the hol- low of the throat. This length can be worn--and you may be sure it will be--with a cashmere sweater, with a tailored |_ suit and soft blouse, with a high- necked dress, with a low-cut dress --in short with practically every- thing in a woman's wardrobe. The single-strand pearl necklace is equally at home at the opera and the super-market, with mink and with wash-and-wear. After the first necklace may be added chokers, one-stranders, two- stranders, three--or four-stranders and really long lengths. The pearl necklace is a perfect "starter"? to which other gifts or pearls may be added throughout the years. Pearl bracelets, rings, brooches and clips are just a few of the possibilities. Pearl earrings are a special favorite of clever wo- men who know how they add lus- tre to the eyes and complexion. Pearls enhance all metals and all other jewels . . . rubies, emer- alds, topazes as well as diamonds. Thus the gift of pearls will go with all the other jewels a woman may come to own. Great jewel connoisseurs through the ages have loved to combine pearls with other gems in the same piece of jewellery. Wealthy Roman matrons prized pearls and emer- alds. Potentates of the East, the home of the pearl, were partial to rubies and pearls. The French have always loved delicate jewel- lery fashioned of gold, pearls, and diamonds. Today pearis are combined with all precious gems in jewellery; SJ Life Underwriters Meet af Kirkland About fifteen life insurance men from northern Ontario met Tues- day in the Park Lane Hotel in; Kirkland Lake for a day-long exe- cutive forum. The meeting was sponsored by the Life Underwriters Association of Canada and the lo- cal association of Temiskaming. Chairman of the forum was R. D. from pearl button earrings or a modest clip for $20 or less, to brooches and tiaras of unmistak- able grandeur. While most of us think of pearls in the more familiar creamy white colour, the connoisseur includes those that glow with a pink or bluish-gray iridescence. Rarest are the large black pearls -- truly gems of exotic beauty! McChesney, C.L.U., Kirkland Lake. Moderators were Thomas J. Campbell, and Claude McCabe, To- ronto, field consultants of the Life Underwriters Association of Can- ada. The 15 life underwriters who at- tended are executive or potential executive members of the northern Ontario association. Their discus- sion covered the entire range of association activities from execu- tive duties to local administration and promotion of the association's role as a '"'corporate citizen" of the community, and the contributions its members can make to the com- munity through various service projects. Their discussions brought the Kirkland Lake executives up- to-date on projects and methods currently in use throughout the Ca- nadian network of 76 similar asso- ciations. Attending the meeting from New Liskeard was Doug McLennan, president of the local organization. Envoy Custom Sedan et oNepbec ioe manship..
