Mrs. Zande will speak-at the Winnetka Woman's club on Monday afternoon, February 9, at 2 o'clock. On a previous trip here, it will be remembered that Mrs. Zande gave examples of local folk songs, accompanying herself on the dulcimer, made by one of the men in that region. The meeting is not for club members alone. Everyone is welcome. After graduating from Smith college, Mrs. Zande became interested in the IJindman settlement school in Knott county, Ken- tucky, and taught there for some time. In 1911 at the request of "Uncle William" Creech, an old mountaineer from Pine Mountain, she in- vestigated the community in that remote corner of Harlan county, with the result that she and an associate from the Ilindman school started a similar institution there. Mr. Creech gave 136 acres of land, all that he had, to found this school and with subsequent gifts the school now owns almost 400 acres of farm and timber lands, with buildings and equipment. More than ninety children are being taught there reading and .writing, practical farming, cooking, sewing and handcrafts of all sorts. The "Barnswallow" Waffle shop is announcing a new schedule of hours, from noon until five-thirty o'clock in the afternoon, instead of from ten o'clock in the morning on, because of the ever increasing luncheon trade which demands the entire services of the cook during the forenoon for preparation. North shore women are taking an active interest in the Barn- swallow, and many delightful lunch- eon and tea parties are being given there weekly. The regular monthly meeting of the North Shore Catholic Women's League, will be held at the Winnetka Woman's club on Thursday afternoon, February 12.
