Austin was the the winner in the lightweight ecounter setting down the north shore athletes, 25 to 12, The New Trier lads put up a stiff battle throughout but failed to lo- cate the cages when points were needed. Austin was on the long end â- of a 7 to 1 score at half time. A dazzling floor attack literally swept the local boys off their feet. The New Trier lights have been double champions of the Suburban league twice. Bantams Lose Lane won a close encounter with the bantams, 11 to 9. Merkel's stellar free throw work won the bantam tilt for Lane. He tossed nine free throws in fourteen tries. New Trier led, 5 to 4, at the half, but Lane came back in the third period with a new style of game, and passed the Kenilworth team, leading by four points up to the final minute, when Anderson of New Trier sank a long basket. Cal- lahan and Hartung displayed a stone wall defense and forced New Trier to use long shots.
