Wilmette leaders, men and women, are putting forth diligent effort on behalf oTlhe Coalition non-partisan Judicial ticket in the Judicial election on Monday/June 6. A volunteer organization, composed originally of riftjpWilmette lawyers, members of the Chicago Bar associa- tion, has since developed a thorough- ly representative movement of citU /ens who are preaching the doctrine of good government and non-parti- sanship in judicial elections as against the extravagant statements emana- ting from headquarters of the Thomp- son-City Hall faction. Supporters of the Coalition ticket decided at a weir attended meeting Friday at the Byron C. Stolp school, to circularize the village in telling the real facts about the Coalition ticket, the purpose and source of it« origin. It is pointed out, in the first place* that there are three tickets on the Judiciary election ballot to be submit- ted to the voters of Cook county on Monday, June 6. These are the Re- publican, Democratic and Socialist . tickets. Positively Non-Partisan The Democratic ticket is in fact a non-partisan ticket composed of ten Democrats and ten Republicans. Cer- tain provisions of the election laws make it necessary for all of these candidates to appear on the official ballot as Democrats. These men, the majority of whom are jurists who have for several years given efficient and conscientious service on the Cir- cuit bench of Cook county, were se- lected by the committee of the Chi- cago Bar association and received the, endorsement of every faction of the two principal political parties, ex- cepting only the City 11 a 11 faction which refused io join in the selection of the non-partisan ticket. Many curculars have been mailed to Wilmette citizens, non-partisan sup- porters -declare, which, in wild and extravagant statements attribute sup- port oT the noh-partisah ticket tcF whaVthe^hompsjonJ^clion_terms the "Commercialized Press", and that thnr~ opposition to the Thompson candi- dates is actuated by certain Chicago daily newspapers against which the City of Chicago. rhas instituted dam- age suits involving several millions of dollars. These circulars mention also, such notorious politicians as "Hinky Dink", Barney Grogan, and others as actual backers of. the non- partisan ticket. Women Support Ticket As a matter of fact, the Chicago Bar association pamphlet points out, eighty per cent of the candidates on the Democrat is ticket are highly re- spected judges of the Circuit court, and candidates1 for re-election at the urgent and almost unanimous request of the Chicago Bar association com- poscd of" the?'best lawyerslnChicago and environs, with-a membership com- prising Republicans, Democrats and, perhaps/ several socialists. In this election the association is concerned about the fitness of the candidates for the offices, without regard, ior po- litical affiliation. The Coalition non-partisan ticket has received the endorsement of all recognized women's organizations in the City of Chicago, the sole propon- ent of the Thompson -faction ticket among the women being the so-called Women's Betterment association, or- ganized during, the current campaign, and which contains the names of no recognized civic leaders in endorse- ment of its literatureâ€"circulars bear- ing the unmistakable stamp of ma- chine propaganda..
