The sympathy of ihe people of the north shore, with contributions of a more substantial nature, no doubt, will go out to the people of the flood- ed districts in Colorado. The disaster is a little farther from us than that which visited Dayton in 1913. but the call upon us is no less justified. The suddeness of the .floods and the horror which is added by the destruc- tion of lighting facilities make an appeal to general concern that is dif- ferent from that excited by any other sort of disaster. The mercilessness of advancing walls of water, the im possibility of escape to a position of safety, and gradual encroachment of the devastating* element, give to the flood terror that is not in spited even by fire.^ The American- Red Cross will be called upon to serve in this emergency as in others of its kind; I* 's a service that should be rendered valuable to the fullest extent by the general public through the immediate subscription of supplies of food and clothing, the essentials to the safety and com- ROAD OILIXCJ AMD TARRING . <aoi Olencoe.
