You wilt be agreeably surprised by our well lighted street, kept up yards and houses, and as 60 per cent of the homes in this neighborhood are new and inhabited by former Chi- cago people, mostly from Rog- ers Park and North Edgewater. who. recognizing the superiority and charms of Wilmette. have recently made it their homes. Four neighbors of the writer from Rogers Park have bought ground and will shortly build. I am digressing from my sub-' ject however, which is to impart to you the reception by the neighboring property owners of the new building system which it is hoped the Village of Wilmette will shortly install throughout its confines. It is the concensus of opinion that proper street lighting increases the value of the adjoining property $5 per foot, and as the cost of installa- tion is less than even one-half of this it is a good investment. Neigh- boring, property owners have come to me and thanked me and those on adjoining streets are asking, "when do we get our lights", and it is for this specific reason that the writer made the installation knowing that it would hasten the entire work and ytve our village fathers some idea of the frame of mind of the property owners who of course should be con- sidered. I do not mind stating that one or two objected vigorously, but these same people were the first to congratulate and thank me after the trial installation was made as they appreciate that I do not intend to in- stall conspicuous posts and lighting units, and all we want primarily is safe and sane lighting and it was for this reason (that the writer installed material that was notornate nor conspicuous, simply posts that har- monised with the surroundings, and I think I can safely state that we have a better street than we had before. I think it is now time for everyone to help a good cause along and give the Village Trustees their fullest co- operation and assist in hastening the big job through. We have talked long enough so let's do it while the weather is good and labor is plenti- ful I also wish to take this method of thanking Mr. W. G. Keith.
