LTG48-1to JAN. 16 OPENING FOR WILSON FOUNDATION Favorable Progress in Organisation Made; James Hamilton Lewis, Chairman for Illinois Chicago.—Organization of the na- tional movement to establish the ^Woodrow Wilson Foundation has progressed so favorably that it has been possible to designate January 16, 1922, as the opening of the period in which popular subscriptions will be received toward an endowment of one million dollars or more according to an announcement today by Hon. James Hamilton Lewis of this city, state chairman for Illinois. "I have been advised by Cleveland H. Dodge, chairman of the national executive committee," he said, "that thirty-seven states are now organized on behalf of the Foundation which is to perpetuate Woodrow Wilson s ideals of democracy, and that reports from the remaining eleven states are indicative of complete national or- ganization in a very few weeks. Permanent Endowment "For that reason, Mr. Dodge has informed me, the national executive committee feels justified in designate ing January 16, 1922, as the time at which subscriptions will be asked to a permanent endowment:™ As prevt- ouslv announced the income from this endowment will be used to grant awards for 'meritorious service to de- mocracy, public welfare, liberal thought or peace through justice. The response to our idea has been splendid and all indications are that the movement to give the United States its own Nobel Prizes will be highly successful." Recent appointments of state chair- men for the foundation include Hon. James W. Gerard of New York. ►r-Ambassador to Germany, for the metropolitan district of New OLDSMOB1LE, AUBURN HOW IN BRIGC3' SALESROOMS Two of the oldest cars on the Amer- ican market are now h™*le* ?*£ H Briggs, the Oldsmobile and the Auburn! L48-lte To Be Done With Diacret If 1,982 persons, including 497 chil- dren, were killed and 49,550 persons, including 12.425 children, were serious- ly injured in a battle, a disaster or, in fagf, at any one time, the whole world would be horrified. Yet that is the number of persons killed and injured in Cook County last year, ac- cording to a statement just issued by the Chicago Safety Connsil of The Association of Commerce. To materially reduce this number. "No Accident — No Fire" week will be observed from October 8 to 14. Aside from reducing accidents every -effort will be made-to—cut the coun- ty's annual fire losl of $11.800.000. Every organization—political? so- cial, fraternal, industrial and religious —will assist in the campaign. All school children will be active in the Work and the most extensive adver- tising campaign since the. Liberty Lonn ilrives is underway. "The economic, as well as the hu- manitarian welfare of the people of Cook County demands concerted" ac- tion to reduce the fire and accident risks", says Harry T. Bell, secretary of the Safety Council. "The condition* at the present time are appalling and only through the co-operation of ev- ery man, woman and child in the county can they be corrected. Seyen- tv-five percent -of all fires arid acci- dents are preventable and every mem- ber of the community is benefited by the prevention."
