' "There are more than 2,000,000 re- fugees from Asia Minor now home- less," said Mrs. Northam. "Among this number are 20,000 orphans re- moved from Asia Minor by Near East Relief to places of safety. Unless America can feed and care for these children, they will be left to starve or drift away into the reeking slums of European cities." Mrs. Edward M. Bailey, President of the Illinois Fed- eration of Woman's clubs, is a mem- ber of the special woman's committee. Mrs. Helen M. Srakefield, Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star is co-operating in this appeal and has sent her official en- dorsement to all the Eastern Star Chapters in the State, Mrs. Northam ^*mouneedv------------------ Miss Anna A. Gordon of Evanston, World and National President of the Woman's Christian Temperance Un- ion ; Miss Julia Lathrop and Mrs. Medill McCormick, of Chicago, are among those on the national special relief committee co-operating in this appeal. DELLWOOD CLUB of Evanston Seventh Annual Spring Dance and Fox Trot Contest -------Jones' Hall Wilmette Thurs. April 5 Editorial Decries Added Burden of Taxes in U. S. "It is time to call a halt and an about-face on all these free-taxing, .easy-spending gentlemen who are so tirelessly increasing old and searching out new sources of taxation," says the Saturday Evening Post, in an editorial. A progressive program of confisca- tion is operating in America under the guise of taxation. Increasing burdens are being added year by year to real estate, to productive capital and wages. Slacker wealth alone is escap- ing, hiding in the tax-exempts provid- ed by these same legislators. Much of this money is wisely spent, much of s it is wasted in worse than unneces- sary extension of government pow- ers and in foolish paternalistic schemes, and some of it goes up in smoke between jealous and rival de- partments." iiill^iiawiliiliifi- osBiiniipiiiiiiiiiiiiHyitiiiBiHiiitiiHinitiiiiffliiHUJ ^ Saturday, March 24 to Saturday, March 31, Inclusive â- ____,___â- â- . â- â- â- â- â- ;.....:......;;â- .;'â- ;..... â- â- -.j<---fr?fmmuamm W, Prices oii*«i«ap|ti«ip»| FORD WASHING Skolrie Motor Co. 712-714-716 Elm Street Winnetka Authorized FORD Dealers 517 W.
