Howlett, Mary (Died)

Mrs. Mary Howlett, mother of Mrs. Allen Vane, died at her daughter's residence on Forest avenue, Saturday evening, January 11, 1890, after a lingering illness, having nearly completed her eighty-sixth year. She was born in Camden, Maine, April 30, 1804. Married to Rev. James Howeltt, in Boston, in 1825, and in 1849 followed her husband and sons to California, whence she returned in 1877 to New England, leaving a buried husband and son, and three sons still living, and resided with a daughter, Mrs. S. T. Morris, in Springfield, Mass., until 1885, when, whith her daughter's family, she removed to this village. Mother Howlett was a genuine, cheerful, intelligent Christian, commending the religion she professed by a joyous, sunny, holy life; devoted to her Savior, active in His cause, loyal to His church, loving the communion of saints, prizing the means of grace, scattering seeds of kindness. Wherever she moved her presence was a benediction. "Her children rise up and call her blessed," and are all active Christians, following in the footsteps of their sainted parents.
