- Wilmette hairstylist Penny Shepherd asked her coworkers to donate a morning's work to her favorite charity. The beauty operators donated their tips to Partners for Progress, a Lake County organization that provides equine therapy for mentally and physically challenged youth. Stylists Margie Regner, Mercy Portela, Donna Watson, Sam Bauman, Luba Budzik, Monnie Jameson, Theresa Bridzik, Deneen Hill, Joanne Farfan, Shepherd and their boss, Maria Toms, owner of Dieter & Denmar Salon and Day Spa, raised a total of $2,272.
